"Solid productivity booster but missing some key feature content"
Version: 4Screens Pro 3.19
Pros
Seems quite stable (on WinNt and Win2K) and unintrusive. Don't know if I'm dreaming, but it seems that I can open way more applications concurrently than people who are not using 4screens.
I have used this product in a high complexity high pressure development environment for a couple of years now, and would not be as happy, nor nearly as productive, without it.
Cons
Not remembering the current window on a screen is very poor, and that is compounded by not remembering the order of the task bar icons, which makes me completely crazed! On my screens, I have 14, 13, 7, and 14 windows open at the moment, and every time I switch screens, when I come back, the window I had been looking at is buried, and the icons are all moved around so I can't find it easily.
Another huge improvement would be (don't know if it is possible, but...) to force a child window popped up by an application to remain on the same screen as the parent application. I have applications that pop up modal dialog boxes that seem to love to crawl under rocks such as behind Outlook, and I have to dig around to find them.
Another dream feature request would be to check MIME linked applications so that they only see applications in the current window context. i.e. choosing a URL from within an e-mail will happily seek it in an IE window on some other screen, rather than either popping up a new window instance on the current screen, or starting a new program instance on the current screen.
As they say, if you're going to dream, dream big.
