3D-FTP

Publisher's Description

From SiteDesigner Technologies:

3D-FTP is a lightning-fast FTP client with a multithreaded transfer engine providing file transfers that are up to 20 times faster. You can browse and change directories while transferring files in the background. Features such as bookmarks, direct remote editing, and directory synchronization make 3D-FTP the perfect tool for Webmasters. Also, the feature for calculating a directory's total size (including subdirectories) is great for keeping a Web site's total size below its limit.

Other features include antivirus scanning for downloaded files, the ability to print file listings, custom commands with macros, autoresume, autoreconnect, KeepAlive, a transfer queue, support for ratio sites, optional skins, and recurrant scheduling. You can extend 3D-FTP with API architecture and plug-ins (a free SDK and source code are available).

Version 7.0 adds new dialog-box color themes, antivirus scanning for each downloaded file, local bookmarks, and improved file management.

"If you look for superior upload speed, this is the FTP client to go with."

    May 17, 2007  |   By OldGuru

    Version: 3D-FTP 7.0

    Pros

Fast upload: My max upload speed, as set up by my ISP is 384 kbps (48 KB/s). I tried many FTP clients, best of which were AceFTP and WS_FTP. The best average upload speed for large files that I could get with those two was 45 KB/s.

Then I tried 3D-FTP. I got an amazing average upload speed of nearly 62KB/s with large files. That is 25% more than maximum upload speed imposed by my ISP! I don't know how it does it, but it DOES it!

    Cons

You cannot open more than one local and one remote folders at the same time. B ut it's no big deal.

"A MUST Have for webmasters. the FASTEST FTP EVER"

    May 9, 2006  |   By SCKarl

    Version: 3D-FTP 7.0

    Pros

Multithreaded BLAZING SPEED. I needed a way to download backups of my entire server which consisted of hundreds of thousands of files. the little files killed my download time bc each one had to wait it's turn. Not anymore. I download my whole server at my MAX internet connection.

    Cons

Not free, but I understand and am willing to pay for this one :)

"a GREAT FTP program with Problems"

    March 22, 2006  |   By laythss

    Version: 3D-FTP 7.0

    Pros

    FIRST off you can see the progress of files uploaded or downloaded it is in a view }window at the bottom of the program which lists all files to be transferred and their }progress. SECOND, about its speed: I can say It is fast. the fastest I have tried yet. the }speed comes from the ability to transfer 20 files at the same instance. meaning: usually }with Ftp programs files are transferred one after the other with this one you have the }option to change how many files are transferred at the same time. You can go upto 19 }files at the same time. THIRD the program does support drag and drop....now I will }mention things that I do not believe any one mentioned that were important to me a as a }web master: FOURTH: The ability to use filters in the sync tool, now the closest I saw }and that was a mess is FtpVoyager.. This Program beats any other ftp program I have }tried in it's sync capabilities and options. You can specify whether you want to upload, }download or both. You can use the filters (even though they are very picky in setting - I }will mention that in the con section-) to exclude/include files and FOLDERS. FIFTH: }sync preview: you have the option to review which files are going to be synced if you }select the Manual box in the sync window. What this does is check the files that need to }be updated and then add them to your query from there you can delete whatever files you }dont want to update and then click the GO button to start the sync, Again comparing this }with FTpVoyager which has a similar function, but it is far harder to see things in }Voyager because of the split small window of server and local, where as in FTP3D you }will first be presented with the server deletion (if any) and then what will be uploaded }}(which will be in your query) I have not and u can firewall/proxy I guess for the server }you are connected to since I did no changes to make it work with Zone Alarm.}

    Cons

ONE: On a windows XP (1.8GHZ, PM, laptop, 1.5 GB ram), this program takes 99% of }the CPU for around 5 seconds.... SECOND: STABABILITY: I have this about once }every 10 times , Program will Freeze some how. A)an absolute freeze at startup }connection.. which will cause the 99% CPU to stay being used and almost nothing will }work on your PC, but the good thing is the CPU usage then fluctuates between 77-99 % }and you can use the ctr-Alt-Del and close the program. B) Sometimes the program will }get froze after it transfers the files. I found in my experience, that if you let it be, it will }finish the operation and continue to function (CPU usage in this instance is not a }problem, only program freezes and if you start pressing man buttons in it, it will }crash)....THIRD: FUNCTION: the ability to set it to connect to a favourite server when it }starts is not available. At least I could not find it, but I might have missed it.... FOURTH: }FILTERS: by that I mean the include and exclude filters, they are very picky in the }settings, and you have to read the help files to know how to set them properly, even the }help files do not mention it specifically so here I am telling you: file names should be }entered in the include/exclude filters separated by a semi colon (;) and the trick part is }this NO SPACES AT ALL OTHERWISE THEY WILL NOT WORK and only the first }file will be read. EXAMPLE: to exclude all files ending with the extensions .db and .gif }you will have to enter them as : *.db;*.gif NOT AS *.db; *.gif ... notice the space }between the (;) and the (*) that is wrong, and the program does not have an error checker }for that problem. IN SUMMERY: Best ftp program I came across, nice skins, if you are }going to buy an ftp }Program I 100% Recommend this AS LONG AS YOU ARE OK }WITH THE CONS }ABOVE.}Was this review helpful? "GREAT FTP!"

    June 14, 2005  |   By luvlostboy

    Version: 3D-FTP 7.0

    Pros

I'd have to say, the first time I downloaded this program and installed it, I had no trouble with figuring it out (of course, with a few minutes of playing with it). My trial version ran out and I am SSSOOOOO disappointed I can't afford to purchase it. I loved this ftp program! I have downloaded ftpNow and SmartFTP...can't get them to work. They won't let me establish a connection with my server. 3DFTP had no difficulty establishing connection and KEPT THE CONNECTION the whole time I was using it. Very disappointed I have to change ftp programs....or at least have to wait until I can afford this one. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!!!! Can't stress that enough!! :-)Was this review helpful? (0) (0)

  • "Works well, informative user interface."

    February 25, 2005  |   By parvan

    Version: 3D-FTP 7.0

    Pros

I don't use FTP much, but suddenly had a large number of big files to download. I tried 6 programs. I only ever got two of them to actually connect to the download site. Of those two, 3D-FTP did the best job of maintaining the connection, and had the most informative user interface. As the program author wrote, the C/NET review is just plain wrong to say that you cannot use drag and drop. The folder synchronization feature is nice. Was this review helpful? (0) (0)

  • "Immediately took 30% of my system resources"

    January 6, 2005  |   By JimmB

    Version: 3D-FTP 7.0

    Summary

I loaded up the program, and it immediately took 30% of my system resources in Win ME, putting me in danger of crashing. I run 6 to 10 programs at any one time, and can't affort to let one program hog this much resources!

    "Better than others"

    October 16, 2004  |

    Version: 3D-FTP 7.0

    Summary

Firstoff, it is advertised as UP TO 20x faster, not always 20x faster. You need to understand what the advertising business calls "hidden words" Never expect what they tell you. As for the program, I am very happy with it. Logged into the site faster than IE, or coreFTP.

Some things that bother me are the unusual file list boxes they used for the local and FTP files. I also dont like how something isn't in your face telling you how the upload is going.

Overall this is a great program. I would recomend it. You might not get much benefit if you are on a T1, but for standard home connections, it will make a difference. Everything the author stated with the corrections for cnet were correct.
