Version: 001 Action/RPG Maker 1.2.012
Pros: Well, first off, it's an engine with an ambition to create a self contained editing environment, and to surpass all other commercial engines available. It does things that you would normally only see in 3D engines, such as realistic shadows, a Z coordinate for vertical calculations, amazing lighting, and impressive environments. It doesn't give a stunning appearance like the Unreal Engine 3 does, but that's because the preset resources aren't the most impressive, and because it tends to run at a lower resolution than most others. But the key is not in the graphics, unlike our "next gen" competitors, it's in the functionality of the engine, and the power of the gameplay. It's incredibly flexible, and limited at the same time. Flexible enough for you to get the majority of the game you want, and yet it's limited to the point where inexperienced people can get the hang of it without screwing up the entire thing.
It's scripting methods are among one of the top-notch components it has. It uses a linear event/module based scripting method packed along with a more complex, and harder to use, text based scripting method. You can define variables, events, and the results of each event. The AI is already prescripted, but you still have control over the majority of it's behaviors within the predefined AI scripts.
You can import and export nearly any kind of resource for use in your game. Anything from WAVs, MP3s, MIDIs, and OGGs to JPGs, BMPs, PNGs, etc. And you can export any of these for direct use in other projects.
Plus you can use vehicles, turrets, guns, swords, shields, and more.
In short, this is the most impressive and powerful, yet efficient, engine I have ever seen in my life. It even surpasses RPG Maker XP...or, at least, what the trial would let me do.
Cons: I don't like the fact that they locked the feature suggestions section in the forums. The help is not limited, though can be hard to find. The engine is still in its infancy, and still has a ways to go before it can grant us all of the capabilities and freedoms we wish to insert in our projects. It has no internal editors of any kind for resources, such as sound and graphics. You have virtually no control over the preferences for the UI. And you have extremely limited control menus and visual events, such as menu background, introductory movies, in menu maps, in game menus, statistics, etc.
Some of the features and capabilities are hard to find intuitively, and the engine itself cannot be customized. Including the fact that it's free, yet, not open source.

Version: 001 Action/RPG Maker 1.2.012
Pros: Making an Action/RPG is fun...at first. It also isn't a RAM sucking parasite like DownloadStudio.
Cons: This program is so confusing. For the coding and variables, a simple notepad format would be nice, but they had to make it so pretty and fancy, I just got lost as soon as I was in. For another thing, you can't customize the interactive character, only the people around him. And the maps are very limited.
