Virtual Stopwatch attempts to be the most diverse time-keeping device you computer has ever seen. With an amazing array of options, it certainly reaches for that goal, but most users will probably find it overly-complicated.
The program appears to users as a small rectangular box with red digital numbers representing hours, minutes, seconds, and hundredths of seconds on a black background. Below the stopwatch are buttons for starting and resetting, along with a lap counter. Each button should be intuitive for anyone who has used a stopwatch, virtual or physical. Virtual Stopwatch's simplistic design takes a nosedive once users open its configuration page. Fourteen tabs are clustered on this page, ranging from screens that set the alarms, change the stopwatch to a clock, alter the color, change the display, and a few that we were unfamiliar to us. While this level of control is aimed at helping the user, it soon becomes overwhelming. Matters are not improved when users realize that every time a tab is opened the cluster reorganizes itself, so finding your next step is always challenging.
The 14-day trial initially looked like it would be enough time to navigate the program in its entirety, but once we dove into its options we could have used more time. There are many stopwatch programs available, with far less baggage to wade through to get results. We recommend that you look for one of those.
