• An excellent program for keeping track of events

  Pros

  Easy to use and can list periodic event such as weekly, monthly yearly etc. Can show week, month, fortnight or year display.Hover the mouse over the entry to see the full details. Has plenty of options you can change, colours etc if required.

  Cons

  If you want to look at the files where the entries are saved it is a bit hard to find, Is in C:\users\[user name]\Appdata\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramFiles\Kalender. On 64 bit system ProgramFiles is ProgramFiles(x86)

  Pros

  - Beautiful minimalistic interface; no unnecessary tabs, buttons or toolbars. - Ability to run at start-up in a minimized state with only a single click to maximize. - Tooltips on mouseover! (Something what many other calendars are missing). - Very fast start-up, even if your computer is slow on booting up and half of the start-up applications are only half way through, Kalender starts and opens instantaneously! - Strikes through all completed events (not just tasks) and keeps them visible. No calendar application is doing this so far, including MS Outlook. I.e. in monthly view one can easily tell all completed events from upcoming. Once again: no calendar application is capable of doing this except Kalender.

  Cons

  Never figured out how to switch to 24-hour format, even though replaced %I with %H in options.

  Pros

  Choose your own coloured field or text for Events. Set your preferred start page. I particularly like that it is so simple to select another year or month when you want to look up a different date - EssentialPIM could learn something here.

  Cons

  No drag and drop for moving Events from one day to another, only cut and paste. Notes field in Event is a bit cramped. I wish there was a way of telling if an Event has any notes, without double-clicking it to see. Perhaps I'll devise a method of marking the ones with notes with a star or something.

  Pros

  Love how you can have it open at startup. Much faster to enter items than other calendar software I've tried. Love the yearly view.

  Cons

  Wish the icons were updated. Many icons were not what what I would ever use. Also, if you want to add a note to a recurring event just for a particular date, it automatically adds the note to all of the recurring dates. Can't figure any way to fix that problem!

  It is free. It works. It is small. It is very easy to use. It never lets you forget appointments. What more could you ask for? I even sent the creator a small paypal donation b/c I was so impressed.

  IF you want simple and easy to use and does what it says (reminds you so you won't forget), then this is the program for you. I am glad CNET still has this program available for download. I have been using it for several years now. Actually, it is all I use now. Screw Microsoft outlook. This program is superior IMO.

  Pros

  Very stable and trim without a lot of stuff I never would use anyway.

  Cons

  It would be nice if you could edit a little beyond the current month more easily. For example, if July, 2010 is showing, you can't make an entry for August 3 without selecting "August". A very small item.

  Summary

  A good choice if all you want is a simple calendar!

  Far from perfect: Why not have 24hr times? 02:00 PM for example is incorrect, it takes up too much space &#38; looks silly. "Event" is fine in Week &#38; Fortnight views but is too truncated in Month view, when it's a pity it can't spill onto 2 lines. Coloured backgrounds show as tiny stars in Year view, where similar colours look the same. Most annoying of all, the Reminder is on by default &#38; if you don't want it, which I rarely do, you have to remember to untick it on every new Event you enter. You also get little "Do you really want to?" notifications if you disable the alarm feature or if you exit the program. I wish these damn things could be disabled permanently!<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Nov 8, 2009<p/>Well, I've now formatted the time display to my preference, it's in Extras &gt; Internal formats, I've found that the little Event stars in Year view are meant to be all the same colour regardless of what colour you have them in your Week view, and I've disabled the notification on Exit, that's in Extras &gt; Options &gt; Misc, but it looks as if I'm stuck with having to untick the Reminder every time, it can't be turned off permanently.
