This freeware accurately splits multipage TIFF files efficiently and reliably but truncates the new filenames. With TIFF Splitter's simple interface, the process is easy for users of all levels. We found the program quick and memory-efficient. However, the speed of splitting the images depends greatly upon the number of pages and files processed. We found the utility easy to use with one or many files. The program supports splitting multiple files, or you can easily select a file from within any directory.

The only inconvenience we experienced was file name truncation. TIFF Splitter's output file names only include the first seven characters of the input files, which can cause confusion in a directory of similarly named files.

TIFF Splitter remains a robust freeware solution, particularly for individuals or organizations with occasional needs for splitting multipage TIFF files. The program runs with low memory and minimal disk space consumption, which makes it ideal for older systems or those with limited resources. However, users seeking greater flexibility in file naming and format output may need to look elsewhere.

Advanced features and limitations

An important recent update has improved TIFF Splitter's functionality. The program now supports basic file name customization, allowing users to append unique numbers to output files, reducing confusion. Despite this improvement, the truncation issue for filenames longer than seven characters persists. Additionally, TIFF Splitter's format compatibility is somewhat limited—it primarily handles TIFF files, with no direct support for converting them into other formats like PDF or PNG. This limitation may be inconvenient for users who frequently work with mixed file types.

Comparison with "Batch TIFF Resizer"

Batch TIFF Resizer offers similar capabilities with several distinct advantages for those seeking an alternative. Unlike TIFF Splitter, Batch TIFF Resizer supports customizable output file names and allows for resizing, merging, and converting TIFF files into other formats. These features make it more versatile for professionals handling large-scale document imaging projects. However, it is not freeware; Batch TIFF Resizer requires a paid license, which might deter casual users.

In usability terms, both programs feature intuitive interfaces, but Batch TIFF Resizer stands out for its drag-and-drop functionality and the ability to preview files before processing. Conversely, TIFF Splitter's simplicity and lightweight nature remain its defining strengths, catering to users who prioritize resource efficiency over feature depth.

Bottom Line

While TIFF Splitter is a highly effective and accessible tool for splitting multipage TIFF files, its feature set is best suited for straightforward, small-scale tasks. Batch TIFF Resizer is a more comprehensive solution for users requiring additional capabilities, albeit at a higher cost. Ultimately, the choice depends on specific needs, including budget, functionality, and ease of use.

Developer’s Description

Split a multipage TIFF file into separate files.
This program takes any multipage TIFF and splits it down into its own separate pages. It includes a browse function for both the input and output folders while displaying all selected files. The original file containing the multi-page TIFF is preserved and unaltered while the separate TIFFs are output to a user specified folder.
