HDClone Free Edition makes it easy to clone, create images, or back up drives and data.

Pros

Clear layout: Options are cleanly laid out in four categories, from Cloning to Tools, with large icons and text labels for subcategories. Once you initiate a task, HDClone automatically detects drives. In general, you just need to choose a destination.

Flexible install options: You can opt to install the software, or you can create a bootable USB drive if you want to take HDClone with you on the go.

Cons

ZIP file: HDClone comes in a ZIP file and has two executable files. We had to crack open the Help file to understand which one to use. Not a big deal, since that just made the program more flexible, but more descriptive file names wouldn't be a bad idea.

Help file: The Help file is extensive (86 pages), but if you aren't already tech-savvy, it might not be very useful.

Bottom Line

This app does exactly what it promises to do. If you want more options and features, you'll need to upgrade. But if you just need the basics, you can get them free of charge with HDClone.

DON'T DOWNLOAD! FREE Version SLOW, PAID VERSION *1* USE

- Simple to use - Clones disk as advertised

- Free version is ridiculously slow. 22Hours Day to clone 350 GB vs 3 Hours for paid version. I know it's free but there's better less annoying ways to get people to pay! - Paid version (I bought Basic) give you a ONE TIME USE license. Once your license is used, you cannot de-activate it on the old HDD. What that means is that once you clone your drive, the clone drive can't then again be used/cloned with HDClone without paying for another license (you get an error message stating that all your licenses are used up). This is just pure greed. The idea of paying for a license is to be able to use the software on your computer - not just one time for 20 USD a time! Avoid this software.
Summary
This could have been good software, simple to use and does its job - but for the greed of the developers in trying to crudely force payment from its users. There are better less annoying options out there.

Very poor customer service. I wanted a refund for the product I purchased and they refused (HDClone Standard [paid edition]). I could not find a single return policy on their outdated website (hasn't been updated since 2009). I learned an important lesson, do not purchase a product from a company that either poorly lays out their return policy, or in my case, this Miray Software company did not have one to begin with. I even made a case with PayPal and they still refused. It is just good policy when a customer wants to return something, within reason, regardless if it works as advertised or not, a good business will give a full refund. And then there is this company, give them money and pray you like their garbage that they give you.

My clone operation for a 30GB drive has been running for 11 hours and is 33% complete. Maybe it will finish by tomorrow.
Summary
The slow cloning is apparently built that way to get you to buy the 'fast' version. If you have forever to wait, it may be worth it.
Needed to clone a Win XP hard drive. Job done in 1 hr

Quick to download Easy to install Drive cloned perfectly in an hour.

None for what I needed to do.
Summary
Needed to upgrade an XP machine with 80GB hard drive to 500GB. Downloaded HDClone and new drive was installed and running in about 1 hour. Absolutely no problems and all installed applications moved to new drive without any activation or password issues etc. Much easier and quicker than reinstalling everything. Hours of work saved.

the bit fir bit is suberb. it saves time nad stress having to configure hd over and over. i use it for software testing in the class i am taking. when i have a problem i pull the bad drive and swap out for a fresh drive of the original os
Cons
one big limitation is if you dont have matching drives it will ot shrink or adapt to different sise drive.
Summary
good for a way to back up drive and transfer full hd not just a partition if you have matching drives.

Had problem with a failing hard drive. Used this program to clone that whole drives files onto a bigger hard drive. In a couple hours the program had done the cloning. Pulled the old drive and put the cloned drive in and booted up. Works Perfectly!

I did a disk clone with this program and it was trouble free and took an hour and ten minutes, which is about par for this type of operation.
Cons
There is no help file. The program offers you several options when cloning but unless you are familiar with this type of operation you won't know what they mean.
Summary
This is a well written, easy to use program which works as advertised. The problem is that the authors presume that you are an expert. There is no help file so that, unless you are an expert, you will not be able to take advantage of all the options which are offered. Also, you may not be able to understand all the info messages. You can still use the program, however. Just go with the defaults and skip the options.
