• Scareware, does nothing

  Nothing. Really, nothing.

  Cons

  Even on a freshly installed Windows 8.1 virtual machine, it claims to have found problems including "faulty Internet connectivity". Needs Internet connection but there is no telling what it sends or receives.

  Summary

  Too dodgy for a freeware that does nothing.

  Pros

  I can't find any in particular, in view of the cons and the summary of my experiences.

  Cons

  I ran System CheckUp, which AOL provides its members. Lots of things found, but I needed to buy System Mechanic to fix it. So I did, but I could not install it and get it to run on my Win7 64-bit PC (tried twice). So I uninstalled it and then called Iolo tech support. They downloaded and installed and could not get it to run either. So then they run Malwarebytes and find issues, they abort the program and state that the problems found are the reason that System Mechanic will not run. He offers a service policy of $199 for one year of support, and he promises to fix the problems reported by Malwarebytes and promises to get System Mechanic running. He tries, over and over, to convince me. I hear other reps on the phone with other victims, being told similar stories, to fix different problems. Lots of spyware or viruses on my PC which is protected by Microsoft Security Essentials?! I end the call.

  Summary

  I search the web and discover the Modum Operandi of Iolo is to tell you they can fix whatever problem (even fixing a not-printing printer) if you buy their $200 service plan. There are many stories of this nature about Iolo on the web. As I had made a Win7 System Image nine days earlier, I restore it, my PC tests clear of viruses or other malware, using Malwarebytes and also checking with a full scan using Microsoft Security Essentials. So I have a hard time believing that Iolo was able to find all these issues with System Checkup and also with Malwarebytes! SCAM operation, I can only conclude....RRRRRRRUUUUUUUNNNNNNNN!

  Pros

  This solved my months-long problem of Windows Explorer failing at start-up. I'm very relieved about that.

  Cons

  The next day a Windows Update failed upon installation, and I haven't had that happen in a very long time. Other updates install fine, and the failure might not be related to the System Checkup.

  Summary

  Worth the $9.95 for someone like me, who doesn't have the expertise to do my own serious PC cleanup. But if it caused problems, I wouldn't really know it. Nothing obvious except maybe the aforementioned Windows update issue, which isn't really a big deal.

• BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE

  NONE that i could find in the short time i had it on my computer

  It crashed my internet, AND I got charged 10 bucks to have this experience.

  Summary

  Well THANK god i learned me lesson years ago to make sure i saved a restore point before adding a program like this. I downloaded this and it claimed i had issues that i had suspected were on my computer. and some I didnt. it prompted me to pay $10.00 for a one time clean up or something like 30 for a year. Well being i knew nothing about this program i opted for the one time thing to see is it was worth it. I AM GLAD I ONLY DID THE ONE TIME. at first everything was o.k. didnt notice a huge difference in speed bit all ran good. as the day progressed my Chrome was laving loading issues, and gor warnings that could find sites. 5 hours after "Fixing" Chrome stopped all togather. i went to good old "Slow clunky" Internet Explorer. and there too, couldnt get on internet. Got on my home computer, NO internet problems there. so wasnt a connection issue. SO went to restore (mind you i didnt add ANYTHING to my computer in between). Windows did its thing, restore was successful. WOW I had internet again. DONT LET THESE PEOPLE ROB YOU TOO. the worst 10 bucks i ever spent. BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE. Im just gald i did a restore point, because this program DIDNT!!!!!!

• Good, effective software, but needs trial offer to use

  Pros

  The interface is easy to use, offers helpful insight on problems with your PC, and has a nice little button to make everything better.

  Cons

  When you click on that button, the program prompts you to make an account and either, pay outright ($19.95), try *free for 30 days (you still have to fill out billing info and after 30 days, if you don't successfully uninstall, they bill you), or do a trial play (which gives you a year of the service for free, but you just have to fill out all the billing info and make an account with another product).

  Summary

  A great diagnostic tool, but not actually 'free'.

• Goodbye slow computer hello powerhouse pc

  Pros

  Scans your entire computer and looks for problems that are causing your pc to be unresponsive.

  Cons

  The software itself ids free to download however if you want to fix the errors that are found that will cost extra. But the price of this is not very expensive less than $10

  Summary

  I downloaded this software on my 4 or so week old laptop and was amazed as to how many errors were found. The main errors were for the registry since when I first got the computer I was downloading software only to end up uninstalling them due to a better program. Overall great software to use. Would Highly recommend this for your slow computer. In a way it is very similar to Advanced System care 5 free which can be found here by searching here on cnet.

• Help me speed up my pc - found the problem

  Pros

  My system was killing me. It was very slow. But this free program took care of this problem with little hassle.

  Cons

  I would like more details on how it solved my problem. I just want to know what I should avoid.

  Summary

  It works and its free. Can't do better than that.
