Editors’ Review
With the relatively low reliability of current rotating drives and limited lifespan of SSD memory, looking for a good solution to back up your important files seems only natural. If Time Machine is not enough for you, a more advanced tool such as Syncovery for Mac could be a good option.
Syncovery for Mac lets you choose between a somewhat simplified interface consisting of four main areas/buttons or a more advanced table mode. The program offers options for making exact copies of folders and drives (cloning) or for programming one-way or two-way synchronization. Two-way synchronization is especially useful for syncing a local folder with a shared Web-based one. This way, you can automatically retrieve or upload files depending on what is currently in your local folder. Syncovery will flag the conflicting files that could not be synced so you don't lose any information. There is also a function to let you keep track of files that were moved or deleted as well as support for compression and encryption. The program is really feature-rich and suited for many situations. There was only one bug we noticed during our testing, when the app quit unexpectedly. This has slightly affected our confidence in the implementation of the software. This program comes with a free 30-day trial, after which -- depending on the features you need -- you may decide to purchase a standard edition or a professional edition. The free trial version is identical to the professional version of this software available for $59.90.
Overall, Syncovery for Mac seems to be a much more flexible option when compared with the system-integrated Time Machine, which left most advanced users hungry for more tuning. This software will be useful for anyone looking for a more advanced backup tool and file synchronizer.
Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of Syncovery for Mac 6.23a.
