This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Maybe this program does not do everything, but what it does it does perfectly, nice and clean. I need to make local backup copies from data files that are created on all kinds of remote instruments (electron microscopes and such). All those remote machines are accessible via sftp and include Macs, PCs and SUN unix boxes. AASync lets me create local copies of entire directory hierarchies of several hundred megabytes each. While the first run may take a while, all subsequent runs are incremental and go much faster. This way I can make backup copies (even Time Machine ones) from my Mac of files that are originally from those remote machines. This is much more straightforward than worrying about running separate data backups on all those other computers. I also use AASync for uploading web sites to a remote server. I used to do all of this with Interarchy, but that program has been getting worse with each new version. I still use Interarchy to access individual files on the remote servers, but for creating mirror copies AASync is much better.
I also needed their support when there were file name issues that turned out to be due to non-standard encoding on the PC end. For a week or so, I was able to work with somebody from AASync on a daily basis until everything was resolved. Great service!
Not a sync program

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Like most apps in this category, this is not a sync program. It's a mirror program. You can mirror the source to the destination. A synchronization program needs two way transfer, moving the most recently changed file from one location to the other.
The demo is flawed in that you can NOT test the most important feature, remote transfer. That's the place all these programs fall short with poor performance and dropped connections. You can't evaluate this program without remote mirroring turned on. What would it have hurt the developers to leave this turned on in the eval copy?
BTW, this isn't shareware either. It's trialware.
This may be a decent mirroring program but I'll never know. I'd recommend not buying until you're able to test remote transfer.
Works reliably, author was very responsive. Overall...

...great program!
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I was looking everywhere for a way to synchronize a 4 GB work folder with my online FTP storage. I wanted the sync to happen automatically and unattended at night. AASynch is the only program I found that does this reliably. Though not the most polished UI, it works without too much fiddling around under the hood. When I did run into a problem and contacted the author, his reply was immediate and he stayed with it until we got it resolved. I would call that first class support! Good job. This is what shareware is about.
Great Idea, Better Execution

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have been searching for a way to backup to a server that I could not "mount" for some time and finally found this.
It is exactly what one needs to do synchronized backups to a server.
It works great and you can get a 20 day full feature, non nag ware license before you have to part with $19 for a full one.
I have backed up my mail and set it to backup automatically every wednesday morning.
The s/w creates a database on your mac which keeps track of any file changes so it does NOT have to compare all the hundreds of files in mail to find out what changed.
As easy as providing server name, user id and user pswd and then a path where you want the files.
It has a drag and drop interface and can also browse either local or server.
Nice.. wonder how much is going to be..

Anyway there is not much choice in running backups over SFTP, so this program is definitely filling a void. The interface is easy, only the options made it necessary to read the doc, which is one (1) page.
