Skype lets you message, video chat, and voice call from practically any device. It's a veteran in the chat space, now available as a Chrome extension. It's mainly for folks needing a simple, cross-platform communication tool.

  • Pros

    • Available on pretty much every platform you can imagine | Time-tested features are still present and accounted for | A solid, if unspectacular, option for basic chat needs

  • Cons

    • User base is shrinking as people move to alternatives | Needs more optimization to run smoothly on new platforms | Honestly, there are better options for voice and video
