  Summary

  Very disappointed with RegAlyser; this was unexpected. This program has a very nice set of functions. On selecting a key, it displays 3 tabs along with the data - security info, change logs and a notes tab which lets you add information about the key. A Bookmark Manager lets you add frequently used keys and the import and export functions allows backup and recovery. The Search function is especially nice. Along with search scope (Keys, Data Type, Range), there are 2 other options - ignore case and high speed search (though I am not very sure what this does). A very useful function is search types - Simple Substring, Regular Expressions, Wildcard and Boolean. Another nice feature is a date filter which allows before, after and between comparisions. And this was exactly what I was looking for. Now for the bad news. I managed to run a string search in a single Key but I could never do a complete registry search. Every time I tried searching something in the entire registry, the program would hang and I would have to kill it. Tried everything - uninstall, reinstall, closing anti virus programs, etc. Nothing worked and I have no idea why. My PC is not exactly top of the line but it is not prehistoric either. I have Windows XP Pro with 2 GB RAM and a 3 GHz processor which should not in any way cramp a simple registry editing program. Well, too bad RegAlyser did not do it for me; I did like the program but not being able to search the entire registry is definitely a show stopper for me.

  Summary

  A regedit.exe search on my Qosmio takes 25 seconds to search the entire registry. RegAlyzer took 3 minutes. It returned zero results, but the search string is there. I had all the search boxes checked, and triple checked my search string, but no results! I tried twice, then uninstalled. I haven't found a registry editor yet that is much better than regedit.exe, but I'm still looking.
