This set it and forget it tool monitors and recovers memory as needed. RamSmash's primary interface is its tiny tray icon. Hover the mouse over the icon to display free and used memory. Double-click the icon to call up memory settings and a histogram. Context-click the icon to display a simple menu of functions.
RamSmash's primary function is to recover memory if available memory falls below a user set amount. We found it accurately tracked memory, and freed the proper amount of memory when needed. On our test machines, it consumed approximately 14 MB of memory to run. That's somewhat higher than we've found in similar memory management programs. An included memory histogram displays free memory. Though the graph is easily set to user specifications, we found it less than helpful. The data is too basic to give much help to users. RamSmash uses 100 percent of CPU cycles when asked to free memory, but it works quickly and doesn't noticeably slow most systems. Users can allow it to monitor and free memory as needed or quickly invoke it with a tray icon click, or hot key.
This demo shuts down every 60 minutes and is limited to a 28-day trial. Every level user will find RamSmash easy to install and operate. There is plenty of time to see if this easily configured and operated tool works well with your system setup.
