• Perfect old-school bit dithering and loop manipulation.

  Pros

  Not too shabby for a free studio product. I like the bit dithering engine, it reminds me of the old days! It's also nice to see a fast response limiter which doesn't choke surrounding audio, especially on our drum tracks. We use a large library of loops so the batch function is ideal. However (see the other section below) this free software doesn't like long high-quality input.

  Cons

  The files have to be quite short (under 3 mins?) when loading higher than CD quality. This is a little annoying because many of my sound files are longer tracks in 24-bit. Output is limited to 8 or 16 bits which kind of sucks. Great if you need to work on short loops, not so good if your boss expects you to quickly master a longer sequence.

  Summary

  If you like working in 8 bit, fantastic! Short 16 bit is also real smooth. However, if you want high quality saving for the evlauation reverb, forget it. This should be used on loops but I don't think real producers would use a free tool like this. Professionals should go for the top product in the WaveGenix range - as the messages kept reminding me!!

  Pros

  Just as with all previous versions of Over Drive, I liked the ability to increase the punch of my pre-mastering tracks, before burning to CD or doing VCD MP2 manipulation. I'd like to say something about the way Over Drive changes wave files: Simply put, with Over Drive you have a perfectly improved sound level otherwise unattainable from the usual tripe found in other so-called studio software from other companies. WaveGenix delivers on its promise. I am currently testing several other titles in their listings because what they are developing is out of this world! I know Over Drive can handle just about everything to do with volume and highly driven levels of insane signal processing. If you need something which can really add the balls to your sound library, I recommend Over Drive - and the other titles WaveGenix has designed. More productivity with less expense is what WaveGenix means for me and it's what you shouldn't miss when looking for amazing audio software to download.
