• Excellent Software With Lot of Features

  Pros

  Uses music databases to identify the album and tracks and then uses that information to split the recording into tracks as well as export into iTunes. It directly sends files to iTunes. It also has built in click reduciton and hum removal (the latter did not fix the hum from my cheap A/D converter). Great support for the new user and lots of features. Easiest and most complete converter program I found.

  Cons

  Read the help file. This is a very powerful program with lots of features and it designed to assist the new user, but you need to pay attention to the suggestions. This is not for someone who wants a simple UI and no choices.

  Summary

  Highly recommended over CD Spin Doctor = which does not export files correctly for iTunes and better than Amadeus Light because it quickly identifies tracks (the most amorous and time consuming step) and directly exports into iTunes.

• Stay away - Very nasty people

  Pros

  Worked well on my laptop PC, easy to use.

  Cons

  I decided to order a second copy for my Mac so I could edit the downloads on my main system. When I installed the software I lost my digital audio output except that coming from VinylStudio. I restored my Mac from Time Machine to before I installed the software and got my digital audio output back. I sent a friendly email to tech support for any ideas. Here is the response: AlpineSoft Customer Service <customer_service@alpinesoft.co.uk> 9:18 AM (1 hour ago) No it didn't, f*** off. Jerk my chain again, big trouble. • Everything you need for digitizing your recordings

  Pros

  Easily learned, editing is non-destructive (does not affect your original file) so you can feel free to experiment for best effect, cleans up any type of noise (clicks, hiss, etc.), lots of options. You can record directly onto your computer or import wav files; I am in the process of digitizing over 150 recordings that I made with a digital recorder.

  Cons

  No cons whatsoever.

  Summary

  Really great program. I don't think there is anything out there for this purpose that could be better at any price, unless maybe you are a professional.

  Pros

  The process is explained very well. Nice to get the track titles from the internet. Recording starts when needle is on the record. Easy to edit tracks. Removes clicks and pops very well. Many features I haven't tried yet.

  Cons

  None at the present time.

  Summary

  I enjoy this software very much. The software that had come with my usb turntable made me download itunes, which I never have used and never want to use. Now I can download and play all my music from Windows Media player. I'm anxious to try ripping my cassette tapes. VinyStudio is a great deal for the money.

  Intuitive interface Automatic, but with plenty of user options if you want/need them Excellent, simple editing options Balloon help that is truly helpful and can be turned off Easy to create track names and other info Can export directly to iTunes Can export to whatever file format you want

  Cons

  Doesn't always place the track end/beginning points in the right place, but it's easy to move them.

  Summary

  This is some of the best and most Mac-like software I've ever used. Very easy to navigate, and the first time I used it, there was very little learning curve for something that could be a complex process. Editing out pops and scratches was a breeze- took seconds to eliminate 14k of them on one record. You can go deeper as well if necessary. Excellent help files. Some of the best software I've ever purchased, and well worth the modest sum.

  Easy to use All the necessary features including fast scratch cleanup and accurate track separation The best thing it does is to keep the original recording intact so you can start over if something goes wrong

  Cons

  Don't have any cons. It's not even very expensive.

  Summary

  I had been using another program (DAK) that was out of date, poorly organized, slow, and prone to crashes. Vinyl Studio cut my production time in half, it's more accurate, and it's much easier to use. I've been using it for about a year and I have had no problems.

  Have had to burn CDs outside the program to avoid CD/DVD drive locking up.

  Summary

  I have tried a few other software applications to convert records and tapes to CDs and this is by far the easiest to use and flexible application.

• A Very Nice Piece of Software for Ripping Vinyl

  Pros

  * User interface shows a lot of care. * So far, no bugs, no hangs, no crashes! * As of this post, still being actively developed. * Does everything I need, and then some to archive my records. * FLAC is supported.

  Cons

  * Full version a little pricey; $20 would be more in line than $30, but you can find deals. * Setting line in level to 3/100 (or 1) is recommended for USB input. That's a bit odd IMHO, but it seems OK.

  Summary

  Have not tried some of the other vinyl-specific products, but even the free version is an improvement over Audacity. It just has more vinyl-specific stuff, like needle down/up detection. I am recording from my TT into NAD PP3i into USB. Archive in FLAC, but then also cut MP3s for the iPod. Now getting into the click cleaner. Very leery about these things, but there are a lot of knobs to play with, and the ability to pull out the corrections for side-by-side comparisons is great. Yes, the UI is complicated, but it's got a lot of stuff to do. I like how it catches problems like the default on a new mic input is to record mono, but it knows you probably want stereo, so it pops up the Windows dialog for you. I'm a software developer by trade, and I can tell when someone has put a lot of careful effort into a program. This one shows it.

  Pros

  Does all functions of cassette to CD. Popup help guided me through first time use with no redos. Excellent auto track splitting with GUI tweaking.

  Cons

  None after making my first CD

  Summary

  This was my first time making a dc from a cassette. The free trial only allows burning 5 TRACKS, but VinylStudio performed so well that by the time I was ready to burn 8 tracks I gladly paid the $30 registration to burn my first CD. No need to try any other software!

• Already a great program with great potential

  Pros

  - easy to use with a lot of hand holding and info for beginners - step by step lead through the recording process - down load track info + cover art - allows to edit track table while recording - USB + analog input

  Cons

  - only 4 fixed filename options, not changeable - should use the same fields for record Info as itunes to cancel need to edit again in itunes with additional info

  Summary

  Although there are some whishes left for improvement this program is the best option I have seen up to now for digitizing old vinyl records. - Before I was using several programs in sequence to do the job, because they had different strength or some did some things better than others. The work sequence in this program is already complete with strong tools to fix clicks and cracks of vinyl records and integrate album art and track info from various sources of the internet - all in one smooth sequential workflow! - The feature that you can work on the track list while records are recorded is a useful timesaving option. I would prefere though that I had the option to change the way track names are saved. I also would like to get a change dealing with track lengths when adjusting the separation markers between tracks: i.e. when you have to change to increease or decrease one track in the beginning of the list, the next one is decreased or increased accordingly. I would prefer that the length of the following tracks stay as originally downloaded or edited - experience with a couple of dozens of records shows that that would much better work in real live as the actual implemented version - or at least provide an option to also work in this way.
