MetatOGGer is a free MP3 tag editor that's easier to use than to say, at least in English. It automatically tags your MP3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, WAV, WMA, and other audio files by analyzing each song's sound fingerprint and comparing it with the MusicBrainz online archive. It also automatically finds lyrics for songs at the LyricWiki site. Of course, it incorporates a media player, making it a good choice for your main music program.

MetatOGGer's clean, ultrastylish interface will be immediately familiar to anyone who's used a recent Office app like Outlook or Word, with its tabbed File, Home, and View pages. The Home and View tabs toggle between different toolbars but share the same main window view. We added songs from our archive, and MetatOGGer's main view quickly filled with data listed under a wide range of headings, with many more headings available for customizing. A sidebar displayed extensive data for individual files, including lyrics. In the Tag section of the toolbar, we clicked the button labeled From Acoustic Fingerprint, which scanned our tunes to identify each by its digital signature, a foolproof method for identifying duplicates as well as extracting detailed file information. We could select all or just a few tunes to search via check boxes and then pick which tags to overwrite from a small pop-up. A progress bar tracked our batch, which took a few minutes to process. Using similar controls, we were able to search for lyrics online as well as identify and delete duplicates in our archives. The View tab offered many options for configuring columns, workspaces, and groups. At the very top of the interface, the developers included an extra Play button, just where you can always find it quickly.

MetatOGGer offers fast and easy tagging of large music collections, a high degree of customizability, an attractive and efficient interface, and lots of convenience, including automatic updates. It shows just how far MP3 tag editors have come since the Napster era.

works great, saves time, excellent database of music- old and new, uses acoustic fingerprinting so you don't have to do anything except run a batch and it compares your music to the database automatically!
Cons
the interface could use a little work, was difficult to understand at first but once I figured it out it doesn't have any issues I have found.
Summary
I would (and have) recommend this to anyone who wants to be OCD with their music collection, or if you just like to make sure things are correct and organized with the least amount of effort as this program's automation is great.

of the Id3 tag on an MP3. The Acoustic Fingerprinting is awsome. Get Lyrics feature is great too. You can see both of the album art tags and change them quickly. The best part about this is that its free. Great interface. Clean look. Great features.
Cons
Crashes at times for no reason. It may be me, saving album from ID3 to file stoped working It says the file is there but does not show up. It would be great if you could transfer embeded art to folder art with more than one mp3. needs normalizing.

A must have to organize and fix MP3s.

Pros
Powerful, identified and tagged my 2000+ mp3 library handily. Helped me recover the mess iTunes left me with when I booted it off my system.
Cons
I'm not a huge fan of the interface but it's a minor downside for me compared to the programs functionality.
Summary
I liked the program quite a lot but no longer use it because I use Media Monkey and it IDs and Tags just fine. If I wasn't using a music player with integrated tagging, I'd certainly go back to this program again.

Excellent tagging ability and correct. I went through numerous tag editors and was highly disappointed. I had my Pantera collection and through most others, were incorrectly named but MetatOGGer fixed everything!

Summary
As stated, I had a Pantera collection, as well as many others and the tags were all out of sorts due to Itunes and other applications. I tried numerous ways to fix the tags and information and nothing worked. I ended up with my Pantera files as being from the "Ring My Bell" album, heh. So MetatOGGer was the last resort and I was not very hopeful it would work. I imported my folder, updated all from acoustic fingerprint and guess what? All songs are now correctly named, correct albums, everything! Yeah, I am now going to work it's magic on the rest of my music that Itunes botched yet again and will no longer use Itunes. Windows Media Player didn't botch the files and tags but it didn't help either among the many free tag editors I tried and let's face it, when you have numerous songs, manual ID3 tagging and such is not the brightest option. For a handful yes. Anyway, I was extremely pleased that MetatOGGer also applied the settings directly to my files upon my CHOOSING to do so, which some others would not and just make a list or apply incorrect information without my approval. I wish I had used this a long time ago. I also used Zortam which was alright and what I thought the best but even that wouldn't fix the issues I had. So thank you MetatOGGer! Truly the best free tagger out there.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Apr 1, 2010<p/>I did want to add that the user interface is very simple and so are the controls. I am no music expert and easily figured out what the controls did. A few minutes reading will easily help those new to the types of tools used. It organizes the songs neatly into folders for you and if you choose to save of course, else you can cancel the changes but yes, it does apply the changes directly to your files which is excellent and what I was looking for. I do believe you can save the changes to a separate folder, you can also move the files or just copy. Simply excellent work on this app. There have been a few mistakes, all by me however and easily corrected with MetatOGGre thankfully. So dig into this software and you will find more and more it can accomplish. So far 40 folders of music and it's been flawless. One last thing and complaint.... I will be up all night organizing my music now ;-)

Clean layout. "Create Title Tag from FileName" tool. Flexible and powerful, but practical design (mostly) prevents it from being confusing. Preview shows the effects of the current options. Cancel Changes mode is very useful

Summary
I've tried many, many tag editors, and most of them are completely miserable. What a pleasant surprise this one is! Controls are laid out left-to-right matching the way the tool is used. The tools menu is full of very powerful tools, including a tidy but powerful scripting language! Some controls require fumbling to understand. As an example, when the program is first launched there is a label in the bottom right that reads "Preserves Existing Tags." Its not obvious that this text is clickable, but when a user clicks on it, the text changes to read "Overwrites Existing Tags." Ah! A pair of radio buttons , next to a pair of labels for Preserve or Overwrite Existing Labels, would be much clearer. Likewise, the tool for creating Title tags from file names has lots of clicky little bits, and takes some fiddling before you understand what each piece does. By far the best of the free tag editors I've found after several hours of digging. Overall, a very solid effort that just needs a couple of tweaks to move from Good to Excellent.

This is the 4th of 5th mp3 tagger I've downloaded, none of the rest worked for me and this is the 1st one I'm keeping. It tags mp3's from their filename, which is exactly what I needed. I tried 11 mp3's at once, and it tagged them all properly with artist and title, in about 3 seconds, and KEPT their previous album info and other misc info in the tags, it didn't delete it, which is good. All in all, a great little program for the niche task I needed it for - LOVES IT!
Cons
A bit alarming at first, working with 2 seperate windows for the same program, but you'll quickly figure out how to use it. Also, the most # of mp3's I tried tagging in 1 shot was around 80 (which took about a minute's time). I'm not sure if it can do more than that - I certainly hope it can do 100's or 1000's at a time, since that's what I need it for. I used to use MusicMatch for this but found out it was corrupting 1 out of every couple hundred mp3's it would "tag from filename"!!! Bye bye MusicMush! :)
