A tool to measure distances and angles on the desktop. The distances can be measured in pixel, cm, inch, points or twips and the angle in radiant or degree. The ruler is almost transparent so you can have it on the screen, while you are working with the applications below. Additionally it has a screen loupe and a RGB value window. You can also draw points, lines, rectangles, bitmaps and text as temporary objects on the screen.

Version 3.3 adds screen cutter.

It's great sorta, but not friendly

There are over sixty or seventy key combinations to use this. I have no time to learn all that, when I just want a ruler. This is not user friendly.
Summary
I'm not a dense guy, the work I've done has been referenced internationally. All I wanted was an on screen ruler to size some documents. I downloaded the MB Ruler.. Man, was I excited. It LOOKS GREAT! All them moving angles, and lines. But I did not see any inches, so I looked for a menu... I still can't do something as simple as put it next to a doc, and just measure it. Something that simple, unless I'm really missing something, this thing just to sit next to anything, and measure, I have not figured it out. I use vid editing, Photoshop, some pretty high end programs. No prob measuring. This thing, I think you need to be a scientist. I am gonna look for a simple, you put it there, and read the inches. This thing killed 30 min, and I have not measured anything. Sometimes designers are too smart for their own good. I've drawn in 3D, in cad and sketchup. No issues. This, like I said, it looks great. Simplicity, forget it.

Screen appearance is good. Installs with only one warning to accept/decline a separate toolbar which is not required. A simple decline provides ambiguous continuation of the acceptance of the ruler installation. Gives a right click menu list of optional parts and actions. Combination measures of RGB, angles, or distance helps in actual use. Seems to not slow the other work underway.
Cons
Toolbar should be ackowledged prior to installing- but is given a clear presence early on with very tiny print describing a massive change of settings and added 'Third Party software' push attempts. The ambiguous selection of a 'Decline' in the installation to continue to accept the installation of the ruler software is disappointing but fairly routine for the 'for profit' hidden companies that try to dominate the 'free software' industry. Once past the tiny fine print description of a alternative toobar and settings change offer, the return to the ruler install allows a sane process with no repeated subterfuge. Angle measures may not be offered beyond the 90* increments seen initially. I have limited experience as yet, and other returns to add-ons or settings losses may occur at a later timing. Initial results only the two program products, with only the ruler remaining after the 'Decline' install selection.
Summary
The unwritten use of hidden and unexpected added baggage is not reasonable, but appears to be limited to a single 'trip-wire' of a selection of a 'Decline' as a statement of 'accept' when making install choices. The good appearance of the ruler graphics could have a 'custom' figure start angle, but seems to be limited to 90* initial measure orientation positioning. I may be missing the method available if present. Haven't tried to scale or detail repeat measures with MB-Ruler as yet. If later upgrades and timing do not return the subterfuge attempts of Claro it could be a very good ruler software device. The background of a failure to select the 'Decline' button gives a warning of Claro 'sharing' your bandwidth and processor activity, addititonal to a forcing of software ads and 'push' techniques. Thanks to the careful author for their hard work and dedication. MB-Ruler separately seems a welcome addition in my computer. Would give 4-5 stars without the baggage.

Summary
seems like "almost" what i was looking for. I tried to use it to measure distances on a drawing on a .pdf file. The problem is that I could not get it calibrated accurately. The one way, through the "options" menu, was not fine enough to calibrate to better than 0.1". The other way, with the "scale" popup, did not work. Using windows XP

Pros
Can measure lengths & widths at different angles, different units, etc. Can measure angles & coordinates. Highly configurable, too! Feature packed & fun to play with. Contrary to another's review, absolutely NO spyware detected!

Pros
It's easy to use and allows you to set a scale. So if you're looking at a map and the legend says the scale is 2 miles per unit, you can set the scale and then estimate a distance on a map. It also measures angles and you can draw temporary items onscreen (points, lines, rectangles, and polygons).
Cons
The bottom of the tool has tick marks but does not label them. This is the only thing I like better about JR ruler, but I still use MB ruler most often.
