iSubtitle for Mac downloads movie and TV show subtitles from the Web and allows you to add them to the actual video. The exported file is compatible with all OS X and iOS devices and even has updated metadata.

Pros

Built-in subtitle downloader: Right from the app's toolbar you have access to over a dozen subtitle websites where you can download subtitles that will be encoded into the video. You may also import your own subs if you wish.

Video converter: iSubtitle for Mac also supports video formats that are not native to OS X. Those can be enabled by installing Perian -- a free software package that extends QuickTime's video support. It took us half an hour to add subtitles to a 40-minute TV show in AVI format and convert it to MP4.

Metadata updater: Along with adding subtitles, the software will update the movie's metadata, adding information such as title, genre, year, plot, and cover art automatically, based on the file's name and any existing metadata. From the app's preferences you can specify the metadata's language and the country the ratings are based on.

Cons

No way to edit subtitles: If you want to edit subtitles or create some from scratch, you'll have to use another application. With this product, you can only incorporate them into the videos.

Bottom Line

If you prefer watching movies with subtitles, and your movie collection lacks them, an app like iSubtitle for Mac can be very useful. Thanks to its built-in subtitle catalog and automatic metadata updater, you'll be left feeling like the app is doing most of the work for you--which is exactly how it should be.

Developer’s Description

Soft subtitled movies for iPad, iPod, iPhone, Apple TV and your Mac.
Create soft subtitled movies for iPad, iPod (Touch, Classic, Nano), iPhone (2G, 3G, 3GS), Apple TV, iTunes or any QuickTime based player or app. The first and only application to take full advantage of Apple's soft subtitle technology. The subtitle tracks are resolution independent and rendered in real-time as you watch the movie. Subtitles are always displayed at the best quality your device can perform. There are support for multiple languages in the same movie file and you can even switch language on the fly as you watch. If you already have a movie in a format that suits your needs there's no reason to re-encode it, just add the subtitles and you're good to go. If, on the other hand, your movie is not suited for your device you can batch re-encode it straight from within the application. You can also tag your file with metadata.
