• I like the concept, but...

  Pros

  1) intuitive to use, even if you're not a techi 2) developer answers inquiry promptly and seems genuinely interested in helping customers 3) easy to export for Apple products 4) easy to work with while editing subtitles in an associated srt file 5) No crashing complaints as other have mentioned—and I've spent 100+ hours using the software thus far. 6) I suggest using TextWrangler with this if you are going to be editing set files as the "grey" zone aligns perfectly with what will fit (show correctly) in one subtitle grouping within iSubtitle.

  Cons

  1) I'm having problems with multiple subtitle options showing even when there is only ONE subtitle file associated with the mp4. When I delete the unwanted subtitle name, it just pops back up the next time I open the mp4.

  Summary

  I'm using this software to merge videos with subtitles and then export to view on Apple devices.

  Pros

  After a year of trying to add subtitles to .avi files, I found this treasure. It's dead simple to use and so far there have been no problems at all.

  Summary

  Occasionally both QuickTime and Toast 10 will display the subtitles but disappear after burning the file to a DVD. I'm no pro and was at my wits' end until I stumbled across this program.

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />I spent some time looking for an app that could manage subtitles on files and came across Submerge and iSubtitle. They both work well but the latter uses soft subtitles and great for Mac users. You can control both the size and appearance of subtitles. You can incorporate subtitles with apps such as VisualHub but you do not get the level of control as with iSubtitle. One limitation for me is that it will not work of you have a file in 2 parts though this is something that the developer has said may be in a future version. Online support is great.

Since i bought this app, i just had the ability to convert videos to iphone, ipod &amp; apple, now (Ipad) 4 free, no payment update nothing i just woke up, opened a movie through isubtitle and boom update and get ipad feature for free, and wait.... im talking about isubtitle only, i didn't start with submerge yet, trust me this is to everyone who looking for an app to convert movies, add subtitle or not for hd or not, this is the best app on mac osx you could ever find, even this app is better that apple quicktime it self. If just there is video player and a remote control from this company then im in heaven :)

  This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.<br />(Sorry for my bad english - I am a german speaking person.) I tried iSubtitle for months, an it is getting worst every update! The programm worked some versions ago at least with UTF-8 encoded subtitles, but now it is crashing even with them. The programm has big trouble to add a subtitle (.srt format) in non-english character sets (german with windows latin-1 character set). It mostly works with .avi-files and UTF, but crashes in 90%, with all .mkv-files and a subtitle file in windows character set. But it sometimes works! Same files, an hour later it crashes with the same files ?????? It whould be a wonderfull app, if it whould work, but if you are using "Perian" and non-english subtitles, it is ... Stay away, since every update tell you, that all the problems are solved now - and in reality has become even worst! Just use Perian to add subtitles, and load the subtitles. You just must put the subtitle in the same folder as the movie file, and name it like the .avi/.mkv/... file. For example: "moviefilename.mkv" and "moviefilename.en.srt" and "moviefilename.de.srt" (german) and Perian will add all subtitlefiles to the File. Then command-j and rename the subtitlefiles as you like, and safe all as .mov-file. You can add this .mov-file to iTunes. In iTunes the movie will be shown with the subtitle you have marked in Quicktime. If you want to watch the movie with an other subtitle, you have to open the file in Quicktime (right-click and "show the file in finder", then command-j) an make acctive or non-active the subtitle as you like. iSubtitle whould be wonderfull, since the Perian-trick works only with movie-fies opend with perian (mostly .avi and .mkv), so for all .mov-files we still need a program, or do it the long and hard way in Quicktime itself. But we need an working app!
