Windows' built-in system tools are geared toward casual users and often lack the power or features needed to keep up with the latest hardware. Developers have stepped into the breach with tools such as Hard Disk Sentinel, a free utility for monitoring and analyzing the performance of terabyte-capacity hard-disk drives (HDDs) as well as the latest and fastest solid-state drives (SSDs). With a number of monitoring and reporting options, it can alert you to trouble with your critical storage components before failure becomes an option.

Hard Disk Sentinel's compact interface is a busy affair, packed tight with colorful status and temperature displays, but in fact it's quite efficiently configured, once the eyes sort it all out. One of the biggest complaints we've had about disk utilities is the way they tend to offer all-or-nothing display options; you can view data for each physical disk or each partition, but not both. Hard Disk Sentinel solves this problem with two displays in the left-hand navigation pane; one displays each actual, separate disk drive with its health status and temperature, and the other displays disk partitions, their capacities, and free space. Clicking on any entry in the navigation pane calls up more detailed data in the main display; for example, the tabbed disk display offers summaries, detailed temperature and SMART data, a trouble log, graphic disk performance displays, and testing features. It clearly differentiated our test machine's three HDDs, including a RAID 1 array, single external HDD, and seven partitions, with complete data on each.

If you have multiple HDDs, SSDs, or a combination of the two types; RAID arrays; external hard drives or disk enclosures; mobile-disk racks or portable HDDs; servers or other applications with high disk capacities; or quantities of high-value data, it just makes sense to keep close watch on it all. Hard Disk Sentinel is just the sort of program we recommend for the job.

This program is NOT free as the license indicates. Its sole purpose is to require you to buy the full version in order to get rid of the nag screens.
Summary
If you want to make a program that is free to try, fine. Label it that way! Lying about the software being free in order to push a paid product is a violation of user trust. This is an OK program, but it's not like there aren't dozens or even hundreds that do basically the same thing so the idea that your paid product will be so earth shattering that you can justify marketing it by deception is ridiculous. Just label it free to try and be honest up front before users waste their time downloading and installing it.

Only free for a 30 day trial. And it appeared to install a TSR that continuously monitors HD condition.
Summary
I want a program that runs only when I ask it to. I have 88 processes/services running that I appear to have minimal or no control over. I feel they sometimes interfere with regular programs. I uninstalled HD Sentinel. Updated on Apr 7, 2014Not free. Thirty day free trial.

(Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) attributes. We can also perform tests with this program.

Summary
Has saved my bacon twice in the past 3 years by providing abundant warnings of imminent disk failures. Both times I had a mirrored drive ready to swap in so I had no down time, no data loss.

Went to install it and it changed its name from Hard Disk Sentinel Free to Hard Disk Sentinel Trial. When they try to deceive you like this at the beginning, I worry about what other deceptions they have in mind. I also worry about CNET who I have always trusted in the past. When one's trust is betrayed, it is very hard to get it back.

Incredibly advanced features with simple descriptions and percentages to tell you just how bad or good your hard drive is. I signed up for CNET just to review this program it's that good. I used to use Crystal Disk Info, but this beats it 10 fold.

The software monitors hard disk drive or HDD status, including health, temperature and all S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology, built in most hard disks and solid state disks today) values for each disks.
