When we see a program called Free Image Converter, we expect that its primary purpose is going to be to convert images between different file formats. That's not the case with this program, however; it should perhaps more accurately be called Free Image Resizer, because that--and not file conversion--is what it actually does. Still, as long as you're looking to resize images and not actually change their formats, it works fine.

The program's interface is plain and fairly easy to navigate. Buttons let you add either individual images or whole folders of them that you want to resize. You can then specify the desired size in pixels and set the compression quality. The program has several options for renaming files; you can add numbers, prefixes, or suffixes to differentiate the resized files from the originals. You can also specify the directory in which the resized images will be saved. That's about the extent of Free Image Converter's features; if you're looking to do much beyond resize or rename images, this probably isn't the program for you. An online Help file is not particularly helpful, but given the program's paucity of features, this isn't a huge drawback. Overall, Free Image Converter doesn't do anything we haven't seen before, and we've encountered many other image converters with more features. But if you need a no-frills way to resize images, it will do the job.

download unzipped easily, but difficult to find the location where the executable file ended up... in a remote temp folder
Cons
didn't do what I wanted. No conversion to icon, just renamed the extension. Now I have the fun time to try and uninstall it. It does not show up in control panel or start menu. Need to edit the registry.

Laden with piggy-back "clean your PC" and Adware. I haven't downloaded any other software in a couple months. Three different files 2 of which didn't want to be unistalled.

After installation, able to compress down (75) immediately photos in a folder and point to an entirely different output folder. Wow! Worked very well and quickly. Very impressive!

If what you want is the capability to quickly reduce the size of photo(s), this is the product for you. Works quickly and minimum of learning required. I can now 'shrink' down image sizes and email them or post them online much more easily. Great product.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Nov 29, 2013<p/>I like the product; one irritating 'feature' that I wish it would eliminate is when I want the photos to be modified to be in the same folder - in other words, just modify the photos. It would be better to have a Check Box option so it would not ask me on every photo if I realize that it's in the same folder and will wipe out the original. Otherwise, pretty happy with the product.
