FakeFlashTest for Windows

FakeFlashTest is a free utility tool created by RMPrepUSB to test and detect fake USB flash drives and SD cards. It identifies devices that report more storage than they physically have, helping you avoid data corruption. The tool provides two main testing options, a quick size test and a destructive H2W full test. 

It’s designed for simplicity, functioning without installation. FakeFlashTest is best suited for users needing to verify the actual capacity of questionable drives before use, especially when sourced from unreliable vendors. The tool stays focused on its core diagnostic purpose without additional interface layers or any bundled features.

FakeFlashTest presents two test methods. The Quick Size Test attempts to write data across the entire claimed capacity of a flash device. If a drive fails to write or read back data correctly at certain addresses, the software flags it as fake. This test is quick and doesn't erase data, but it can miss some fake drives that silently corrupt data once full.

Test directly

The H2W Test writes H2W pattern data to the drive and reads it back to verify integrity. This is a destructive test, meaning all data on the drive will be lost. It’s useful when the quick test passes, but there’s still reason to doubt the storage's honesty. This more thorough scan takes time and effort, but it's the digital equivalent of a white-glove inspection for your storage.

The program requires no installation and runs as a standalone executable. Once launched, you select the target drive, choose a test, and begin verification. It’s advised to back up any content beforehand if using the H2W test. The interface is minimal, offering only essential prompts and progress indicators. Though it lacks formatting utilities, it's a tool that gets the job done without any fuss.
