ESBCalc is a free scientific calculator that performs trigonometric, hyperbolic, and logarithmic functions. It has a "Paper Trail" option that shows you your calculations on a virtual paper tape like an accounting calculator. You can change and customize the color of the calculator's buttons and background using the Options menu. ESBCalc also functions as an ordinary calculator.

ESBCalc's interface is basic, but it's designed to resemble a handheld scientific calculator, so it'll be familiar to many users with science and engineering backgrounds. Clicking the "I" button on the calculator brings up a Read Me file that offers minimal help for using the ESBCalc but not for doing the math. For instance, it doesn't offer step-by-step information about how to compute trigonometric, hyperbolic or logarithmic functions. Users with this knowledge will know the proper sequence of buttons, but students new to complex mathematics might have difficulties. The Paper Trail option is a good feature and would be helpful for adding up long lists of data. We were able to perform basic math calculations with no trouble. We like that you can still use ESBCalc as an ordinary calculator, which makes it useful to a wider variety of people, but we wish it offered more help for using its higher math capabilities. A step-by-step user's guide in the Help file would be a good place for improvement.

ESBCalc is free, and it installs and uninstalls with no problems. This Windows program is a good option if you're looking for a free scientific calculator.

easy to use, easy to operate, easy to see your entry's etc. The best algebra calculator out there, plus its free and you don't need an internet connection to use it! I really do love this calculator!
Cons
does not explain what some of the function buttons do, guess you just have to know, to use them. Could use an updated interface but don't need to be pretty to necessarily function well.
Summary
I used this calculator last year, and have been searching all over the internet to find it again this year! Thank god for cnet always has it even if I'm not spelling it correctly in the search box. :) yay!

I cant say much--but it seems to me it has all that a supermodern calculator is supposed too. I am an half old fart-- and must admit its out of my legue. Its free..

Oh i did not find any help buttons-- Neither for how to use functions..or what the functions stand for. Maybe it is on there homepage --?

Pros
Many different functions available. Idon't usually like to read the directions on anything so I just started using it. It took a few minutes to try different functions and now it's pretty easy. A good multi-function convertor.
Cons
I haven't found any plain calculator functions, but I really just wanted the convertor.

I wanted a calculator with the percentage because the default calculator that comes with Windows Vista does not have one. This allows you to copy the result or details of your calculations to the clipboard. It has a lot of scientific buttons including percentage and would be very useful for performing more complex calculations. It displays the calculations in a paper trail so you can easily see your steps. You can also specify the number of decimal places to display for the calculations for e.g. 3.11 or 3.1111. I found it very useful!

ESBCalc is a freeware Windows Scientific Calculator with infix notation, brackets, scientific functions, memory, optional paper trail, customization of the colors and fonts used, result history list, and customization of the hints. Functions include Trigonometric, Hyperbolic, Logarithmic--Base 10, Base 2, and Natural. Now includes prefix function support so that Log (1.3) can be entered as log 1.3 rather than as 1.3 log which is the default behavior.
