Check your storage disk's surface for errors with real-conditions benchmarking.
Emsa DiskCheck is a freeware dual-purpose utility for disk surface checking--prescan and full disk reading--with real conditions benchmarking. It scans the entire contents of a CD, DVD, or hard drive and shows found disk errors.
this program may have worked at one point, but it redirects you to there website once installed, to click an Activation link at the top which is none existant.

Cons

I tried checking my J: drive and it returned that there were not errors in 2 seconds flat. It counldn't have checked anything meaningful in that time.
Very nice utility. Easy to Use.

Pros
This was a safe, easy to use program. It can scan Hard Drives, Floppies or CD/DVDs. It will tell you the number of bytes that are used, how many files and folders, and give you speed statistics. I can work on other programs while it is running.
Cons
Youl have to go to their website to get an activation code with first use, however they do not ask you for your email, you merely click on the ACT sign next to the DiskCheck spot in the blue box and copy and paste the code.
Summary
Nice lightweight product. It does seem as if I can't scroll in the "window" of actions and error messages - but that might be because it's running now. There is a file name and I can't read it to the end. Regarding activation, keep in mind that you need to check the ACT sign, and not the link to the program. You will click the ACT sign for DiskCheck, NOT Emsa Encryptor. (At first glance I wanted to choose the only one that said "Emsa" but it wasn't the DiskCheck.) If you do it wrong, it's no big deal, you'll just a description of the program. It was a quick and painless activation process that required absolutely no giving of any information (except it opened an IE window and I was working in Opera). This is not a hugely comprehensive tool, but it is a friendly lightweight useful tool.
Handy rental DVD checker

Pros
One great use for this software - checking those rental DVDs you get in the post (or from the store) before you watch them and then they fail half way through - if that's ever happenned to you you'll value this software.
Cons
A bit primitive - but hey it's free.

Pros
Just to critique the editors review in that you can (now at least) save the log info by right clicking so it is possible to see the full results.
Cons
It's caller a checker, not a fixer, so it's not really fair to complain that it doesn't fix.

Double checks for CD/DVD errors!
Herbert Talabis
Pros
You'd probably encountered a DVD/CD burned but after accessing it afterwards the DVD/CD has 1 or more errors. This simple program checks your whole DVD/CD for any errors that may encounter so you won't worry that one or more files might be unreadable. A must have for those who burn frequently.
