Duplicate Files Searcher (DFS) is an application for finding and deleting duplicated files on your computer It can also be used to calculate MD5 and SHA hashes. It is a platform-indpendent software and runs under Windows, Linux/Unix and MacOS. There are English, German and Polish language versions. Since DFS is entirely written in Java, it requires Java Runtime Environment Standard Edition (JRE SE) installed on your computer. The application gives a user some extra features such as:manual files selection which gives a user the full control over files to be deleted, byte for byte files comparison (it ensures 100% accuracy), files preview, new user interface including results display, improved (faster) searching engine, several files comparison methods, Look&Feel adjustment and new report files format.

Easy to install and run from Finder without a PHd in OSX. Options that I didn't even use yet.

Summary
Found two identical files created on different days, different names. I made them by exporting from Fireworks on different days. THEY WERE NOT COPIES. There is no way I'd find them without a tool like this.
Easy to use, Works Perfect with a little patience!!!

Pros
Finds duplicates and searches sub folders. Can click automatic selection of files and invert selection. Very simple to use.
Cons
Wouldn't want to search your entire computer at once. Would take forever, but this is understandable.
Summary
Easy to use, free, works excellent and helped clear thousand of duplicates off my MAC. Cannot believe anyone would give this a bad review.

I have had no problems with this program and use it verify that backups on external drives aren't cluttered with multiples (of which I have found many). It does exactly what it says it will and I have had no trouble running it on my MacBook Pro.

The creator offers a button asking for feedback. I honestly like that idea and wish more ppl would think like him/her. I suspect this developer is a nice person who just needs to learn the fine art of beta-testing.
Cons
* I have a state-of-the-art MAC, and I use it pretty hard, so it has a huge amount of RAM. This program must pull everything it looks at into RAM, because I it devoured it like a teenage boy at a hot dog eating contest. I run Memory Freer on my old MacBook and installed it on my big beast just for interest. It never complains. But with this program it literally popped up about once a minute saying that yet another 12-16G of RAM was left inactive. I was really impressed, but not in a good way. * I have no graphics card issues either, but every time I touched the results panel the whole thing would freeze for at least a minute (or 6). Being a curious person, I shut down every non-essential program, but nothing changed. Each time it froze it went partially or wholly blank, only to return with fewer results. Finally it locked up completely showing no results at all.
Summary
I'm a nice person, and I do not like to bash people or things, but I have to say that I could not have designed a worse program if I'd tried. I really wanted to like it, but it was spectacularly useless and an utter waste of time. I realize we are not suppose to post adds, but for this function I'll take M*CKeep*r anyday.

The download was quick and easy. It doesn't make sense to have two different versions at the same time. Once I figured out how to select directiories for scanning, it worked quite well

At times a bit too powerful for my my machine, and I spent a fair amount of time waiting, not knowing whether it was progressing. Also leaves the user a bit naked in terms of deciding how to maximize value, minimize risk.

I deleted the downloaded application and used it once only: I was scared to delete two files with same title and different text. Also I have enough memory to keep duplicates.

Read the notes at the bottom of the download page. Without others' BTDT experience, I would never have figured this out. But once figured out, wow!
