Want to manage your collection of DVDs, videos, laser disks or CDs but don't have the time or patience to master Access? This preformatted app is ready to use for entering data about your collection--either by entering information manually or importing it from online sources or other files.

Ant Movie Catalog launches a large window with several fields ready to receive info about the DVDs or CDs you want to inventory. The large number of fields may be intimidating at first, but because of the range of info you can enter into each record, both novices and completists will appreciate this app. The type of info you can include are media label, source, original title, translated title (for foreign films), director, producer, actors, country, year, URL, description, video format, languages, audio format, length, rating, date added to collection, and more. We also liked that we could include the names of borrowers to whom we might loan a DVD or CD.

This free app performed very well during our tests. It responded quickly to our clicks and keystrokes, and we liked the ease in importing information and pictures from outside the app into a record. True cinephiles will appreciate being able to sort records according to 27 categories. We were pleased at the completeness of data Ant Movie Catalog supports--all without the user having to learn to build an Access database. We recommend it to everyone who owns so many DVDs he or she can't remember them all.

Easily imports field data from internet, eliminating arduous manual entry, displays and orders fields quickly, accepts custom fields, has numerous printable report options. This is by far the best free video database application I've ever seen on CNET!

absolutely none!
Summary
I've tried many free video databases on this site but each had limitations; there was a limit as to the number of records you could add, the print options were limited if they were available at all, or there were no customizable fields, or very limited options. This program has it all...and it's still free! Updated on Mar 11, 2014CON: During the install, there were about 3 programs they asked to install-check their descriptions and be sure to 'disagree' to install them unless you actually want them!

I've used this for years and you can easily contact Ant Catalogue for advice. You can also design your own templates in so many ways which, in the past, I was unable to do on another software that, seemingly, is more popular than this. There are so many options for searches, cataloguing and so on.
Cons
None really because you can always contact the software creators. I am not an IT expert and if I write, I hear back within 24 hours, or even an hour!
Summary
Brilliant. I wouldn't change a think. Use it, experiment with it and you will be surprised how flexible it is.

Imports almost all the info I want quickly saving tons of manual typing, tremendous variety of import sources to choose from, huge variety of ready-made report printing templates, and user-editable, too!
Cons
After a couple weeks use, I have found no problems yet with the program.

If you want software to catalog and organize your movie collection with a minimum of manual input, plus the ability to produce a variety of customizeable printed reports, THIS is your program...and it's FREE!

Pros
Was great at first. I entered over 500 movie titles and while the reports function never quite worked right, at least I could tell if I already owned a move before buying it. Suddenly today, it isn't downloading any info about the movies..
Cons
After investing many ours entering movie titles and downloading info, it suddenly stopped downloading info.

It will provide you with a lot of information about your movies. Though, more info then I would need. That is if it works?

Did not work for me. Built in scripts did not provide any info and I was not interested in manually tracking down all the different fields of data.
Summary
If this programs works for you, I could see where many people might like it. If it had worked for me I still feel it provided more information then I was interested in having. Personally, I like to use "My Movie Library". It provides me with just the info I want and I like the feature that allows me to play a movie stored in my hard drive right from the program.

Pros
Ant Movie used to allow links to online sites which would download additional movie info and pictures. Most of the links didn't work and the interface was horrible. Moreover, none of it works in 64bit Windows.
Cons
- Terrible interface - Does not work in 64 bit - Software has essentially been abandoned
