ALSong is an innovative music player that lets users view lyrics to thousands of songs as they play. Although the program's design could be better, its unique features still make it worthwhile.

ALSong's interface is fairly intuitive (it's set up much as any media player is), but we didn't love that several of its features open in different modules. The media player opens in one window, the playlist in another, the lyrics viewer in yet another--things get cluttered pretty quickly. We were also irritated by the small text used throughout the program; anyone whose vision isn't what it used to be is likely going to have a hard time with it. At least the tiny buttons are all equipped with mouse-over tool-tips so you can see what the not-entirely-obvious icons mean. Although the interface made us a little grouchy, we thought the program's main feature--its lyrics viewer-- was pretty cool. The program connects to a database that contains, according to the publisher, over a million songs, and the program automatically finds and displays them when you play an MP3. If lyrics aren't listed for a particular song, users can submit them to the database themselves. The program's built-in Help file is thorough and contains plenty of screenshots. Overall, we liked ALSong for its features, but its interface could use some improvement.

ALSong is free. The program installs politely but leaves a folder behind upon removal. We recommend this program to all users.

Pros
Scrolling lyrics are awesome! There's no way to remember so many song lyrics and this makes it easy
Cons
I would pay $100 or more for a way to store the lyrics on the computer with the scrolling timecode so it can be used offline. A different EQ for each song that can be saved offline would also be a great feature.
Summary
Can't beat the price but would like to see a paid version that offers the features I mentioned.

Pros
I just downloaded this handy little AL Song live music lyrics MP3 player, and I'm really impressed with it. It only uses about 5 % CPU when it's running, and very low memory usage. Very good player all around.
Cons
These are the things that bother me when I'm running the player:
1 - After three hours of trying to find a way for the web radio to play my radio stations, I finally gave up doing it on my own, and went to the Forum. Not much help there at all. The other posts were from 09/06 and absolutely nothing about the Web Radio. You can tell they don't update the Forums at all.

2 - Can't find a LOT of lyrics for my songs. I mean come on, no lyrics for Elvis Presley's Are you Lonesome Tonight? Puhleeze !!

3 - Doesn't keep the playlist the way I customized it. I had saved the list and put the more than 250 songs on the list in alphabetical order... manually. The next time I opened the player, the songs were in random order. And I don't have random order checked.

4 - Very few skins to work with. Although the ones that are there, are very colorful, and you can change the colors numerous times.

I am anticipating being able to fully use all the features offered with this MP3 player, especially the radio. Until then, I'll keep WinAmp on hand. But, I use the AL Song music player more. It's really a neat program !!
