Publisher's description

From Internet Security Alliance :

From the developer: "pcInternet Patrol is a new Personal Firewall shifting the paradigm from traffic filtering to 'true' application control. The only personal firewall that offers 'true application control' for programs sending or receiving data (as well as for those incoming as e-mail attachments): it matches the signature of each individual module (*.exe, *.dll, *.ocx, *.ax, etc) against its shared centralized database in real-time. Developed for the Windows platform, it connects users through its shared centralized database and creates a Virtual Security Network. This network provides real-time protection against information and identity theft from Personal Computers as well as against e-mail born viruses.

"With all other personal firewall programs, application control literally means the users ability to recognize and control the activity of all applications sending or receiving data and configure personal firewall settings accordingly. As a result, their level of security depends on their level of expertise. To make matters even more difficult most malicious applications are disguised to appear familiar and “OK”. Even though many personal firewalls will use MD5 signatures for applications, with nothing to match them against, these signatures are of little value. Because this process is automated, pcIP’s Virtual Security Network enables each user, regardless of their level of expertise to contribute to the database, while benefiting by all other users doing the same.

"Our database currently has more than 99% of all the executable files sending or receiving data ever written by programmers for Windows. Because millions of people have the same files on their computers such as, operating system files, browsers, e-mail clients etc. which will represent a single ID entry in our shared centralized database, it is easily manageable. As a security note; since the files that send or receive data contain only executable codes and no personal or non-personal data, they do not compromise a user’s privacy."
