CNET Editors' review
Although iTunes has always been one of the best pieces of jukebox software available, the company improved upon a great thing with version 7, which adds enhanced video capabilities and new ways to view your music library. A cleaned-up left sidebar makes finding your music and videos a snap and the new Album and Cover-Flow view options let you flip through CDs in style. The built-in video player accomodates both your own files and ones you buy at the iTunes Store; right-clicking a clip lets you render it iPod-compatible. With the addition of full-length movies at the iTunes Store (Music is no longer part of the name), you can now view near-DVD quality movies at a resolution of 640x480. The experience of both purchasing and playing movies and videos is almost identical to perfoming the same actions with music, so seasoned users will have no trouble (with fast broadband, movies download in about a half hour).All the features we love from past versions are still intact, including seamless iPod integration, smart playlists, CD burning, label printing, the ability to rip files in multiple formats, network sharing, and, of course, the enormously successful iTunes Store. Rounding out the feature set are parental controls, integrated podcasts, and a smart-shuffle option. Whether you're already among the converted or have yet to try this top-notch player, iTunes 7 should find a home on any media junkie's computer.
Publisher's Description
From Apple:
iTunes, the award-winning digital-jukebox software, is now available for both Mac and Windows. The iTunes Music Store offers Windows users the same online music store that Mac users love, with the same music catalog, the same personal-use rights, and the same pricing of 99 cents per song. With music from all five major music companies and more than 200 independent labels, the iTunes Music Store catalog now offers more than 1,000,000 songs. iTunes includes great features that make it the best digital-jukebox software for the Mac--a free download with no hidden charges for extra features, MP3- and pristine-quality AAC-encoding from audio CDs, smart playlists, more than 250 free Internet radio stations, and the ability to burn custom playlists to CDs and MP3 CDs, to burn content to DVDs to back up an entire music collection, and to share music via Rendezvous over any network, cross-platform.
Version 7 adds navigation by album covers with Cover Flow, backup features, and high-quality feature movies for preview and purchase.

"Awesome"
Version: iTunes 7
Pros
Great ease of use, about sound quality what are talking about (it is great), very compatible, faster downloads and faster music store loading than iTunes 6
Cons
may have a few cons, as it is a major change to iTunes, though patch will fix these
-
"really bad sound"
Version: iTunes 7
Pros
music backup, neat album cover display
Cons
horrid playback quality completely outweighs any pros.
-
"Poor Performance"
Version: iTunes 7
Pros
New Features (Gapless Playback, Album Art Finder, Album View) would be nice, IF THEY WORKED!
Cons
iTunes 6 ran really quickly on my P4 1Gb machine, even with a large library (10,000 tracks). But iTunes 7 is a sluggish monster, it takes ages to boot up, the tracks skip and splutter, and the graphical interface is soooooo sluggish. And it gets even worse when i open any other programs at the same time.
And another niggle i have - you cannot delete or move the desktop and start menu shortcuts, itunes replaces them every time at startup! grrrrrrrrrr! I've gone back to version 6, i'll wait till apple sort out this mess.

"iTunes '6' was great but '7' has too many faults with my Imac"
Version: iTunes 7
Pros
Backup library too Disc is good and the CD cover browse is good too
Cons
All problems below were nonexistant in iTunes 6.
Takes way too long loading library on startup.
Can't access equalizer, and when I minimize then maximize iTunes it leave a blank equalizer window.
I have an ImacG4 & OS10.3.9 with 512ram and iTunes '7' runs slow compared to '6'.
I run a Jewelcase Visualizer and on Itunes 7 it runs slow and can't be manipulated like before.
Also no visualizer button on window anymore

"Good Features, Bad Sound"
Version: iTunes 7
Pros
It looks cool, new video features are cool...
Cons
Sounds good, then when the song changes, or I switch to another program I am running (like a web browser) it seems like a 30% chance that the music will start crackling... and wont stop... I probably have to close it and re-open it to fix it... I am just using JetAudio to play music for now... I'm googling iTunes 6 download (if it works) because it sounded perfect...
So basically the sound isn't working as it should...

"Avoid like the plague!"
Version: iTunes 7
Pros
Pretty interface and navigation.
Cons
Everything else.
You're now forced to upgrade to iTunes 7 in order to download any videos from the iTunes store, and videos no longer play natively in the iTunes application. You have to use Quicktime, which does not always recognise the videos. To make matters worse, clicking on a video does not launch Quicktime. You have to load the program separately and paw through your files looking for the one you want.
As pretty as this is, it's definitely one I'm downgrading from! Overpriced video downloads and a sexy interface are not worth the absolute mess of attrocious features and limitations that this 'upgrade' brings with it.
What makes things extra sad is that this review is on the Mac build - yes, the native system.

"MAJOR SCREW UP - for WINDOWS USERS"
Version: iTunes 7
Pros
INTERFACE LOOKS GOOD, IF --- U CAN GET IT TO INSTALL PROPERLY
Cons
DO NOT INSTALL THIS SOFTWARE. I HAVE TRIED EVERY CONCEIVEABLE SCENARIO FOR INSTALLATION, SHORT OF RE-INSTALLING WINDOWS. NO HELP FROM APPLE SUPPORT.

"Truly Amazing"
Version: iTunes 7
Pros
New View Options (highlighting cover art);
more refined interface;
ability to download movies and TV shows;
improved iPod interface (iPod settings and updates more easily accessible);
I downloaded iTunes 7 as soon as it came out and i am absolutely thrilled! For me the best part of version 7 is the improved view options. I Love It! I am a very visual person and iTunes now makes it very easy to get cover art and provides an incrdible visual experience when playing music. I haven't purchased much from the iTunes Store before because i wanted to have the album art more accessible. I will be making a lot more purchases now though!
If you don't have this software yet you are missing out!
