Publisher's description of iTunes for Windows 5.0.1

From Apple:

iTunes, the award-winning digital-jukebox software, is now available for Mac and Windows. The iTunes Music Store offers Windows users the same online music store as Mac users, with the same music catalog, the same personal-use rights, and the same 99-cents-per-song pricing. With music from all five major music companies and more than 600 independent labels, the iTunes Music Store catalog now offers more than 1,000,000 songs. Features include a free download with no hidden charges for extra features, MP3 and pristine-quality AAC-encoding from audio CDs, smart playlists, more than 250 free Internet radio stations, and the ability to burn custom playlists to CDs and MP3 CDs, to burn content to DVDs to back up an entire music collection, and to share music via Rendezvous over any network, cross-platform.

New in this version: Enjoy a streamlined look, find stuff faster with the new Search Bar, control kids access with Parental Controls and hear more of what you love with Smart Shuffle.

  • "Five-star jukebox hits version 5"
  • Version reviewed: iTunes for Windows 5.0.1
Although iTunes has always been one of the best pieces of jukebox software available, the company continues to improve upon a great thing with version 5.0. The first major change that experienced iTunes users will notice is the revamped interface; the famous, brushed-metal look is gone, but the new look is even snazzier than before. That said, all the features we've loved from past versions are still intact, including seamless iPod integration, smart playlists, CD burning, label printing, the ability to rip files in multiple formats (except WMA), network sharing, and of course, the enormously successful iTunes Music Store. Integrated Podcasts, iTunes's last major innovation, are still in the house, as are a few new and notable features. Parents will appreciate the control tools that allow them to disable access to podcasts and the Music Store, as well as prevent kids from purchasing explicit songs. And all users will benefit from the new Smart Shuffle feature, which gives greater control over random play. Whether you're already among the converted or have yet to try this top-notch player, iTunes 5 should find a home on any music lover's computer.

    Version: iTunes for Windows 5.0.1

    "The best music jukebox around!"

    by computer_genius on September 9, 2005

Pros: The new interface is great! It has an excellent sound quality, and it's for free. It's very feature-rich, and it's completely configurable. It doesn't come with any malware too. It even has parental controls which is not common in music jbs. The iTunes music store is the most comprehensive music store that I have ever tried. It's really the best music jukebox ever!!

Cons: iTunes requires QuickTime to work. The installer size is extremely big, but it's worth it because the program is really very feature-rich.

    "Great Interface, very organized"

by afrobat on September 23, 2005

Pros: - very clean, easy looking interface

    - very easy to navigate using it and easily find songs

    - though i do not use it, i guess the music store could be useful

Cons: - pretty good sound quality, but I still think winamp sound quality is better.

    - takes up more RAM than any other media/music player i've ever used

    Version: iTunes for Windows 5.0.1

    "Great media player!"

by jumpingcheese on September 8, 2005

Pros: The new version of iTunes has a slightly different skin, and parental control, not that much of a change. However, like the iTunes before 5.0, the software is easy to use and almost every music ever produced can be found on the iTunes website. Although other reviews claim that iTunes is a resource hog, I could run multiple programs with iTunes with only 256MB RAM. This upgrade is not that different from previous versions, so people with dial-up might reconsidered downloading the setup file. Other than that, I highly recommened iTunes!

Cons: The setup file is 32.7MB...download.com simply supplies a link to the iTunes website, which asks for you e-mail address...not that big of a problem. But the file size is a little too large, it took 2 hours to download off dial-up! =/

"Ease of Use, reliability, iPod stuff"

by shuaibao on September 24, 2005

Pros: This is one of the easiest to use audio jukeboxes ever. iTunes is #1 before winamp. Also it kicks Windows Media Player's butt.

How easy is this to use? Your library is all ur songs. Go to the music store and search and download a file. Done.

New playlist? Hit the + button and fire up a playlist. Go to Lbrary and drag stuff in. Done.

Play a song? double click. done.

Search for an audiobook in your huge library? put the audiobook name into the searchbox and hit audiobook. Done.

    Quickest search out there.

    Easiest to use.

    Most powerful jukebox application ever.

    Done.

    Cons: Nothing.
