Bursting at the seams with features, iGadget is popular for a reason: It synchronizes a smorgasbord of information from your PC onto your iPod, and it also transfers tunes back to your computer.

Some apps let you sync your Outlook calendar, contacts and e-mail to your iPod, and still others allow you to back up songs, playlists and podcasts from iPod to PC. IGadget supports all of those and throws in some useful goodies. Local movie listings and weather, driving directions, RSS news feeds and even personalized horoscopes can be synced and managed from iGadget, which installs the features into folders in your iPod's Notes section.

One feature that didn't meet our expectations was that videos don't have a separate sync function, although they are supported through the main track list. We'd also like to see support for other e-mail clients besides Outlook.

Still, iGadget gives great functionality for its price, and we think it makes a quality addition to any iPod.

Realize the full potential of your iPod. Transform your iPod into much more than a music player. Turn your iPod into an information repository by transferring all kinds of data to your iPod, including driving directions, contacts, appointments, email, notes, tasks, podcasts, RSS news feeds, weather forecasts, daily horoscopes, and movie showtimes. You will have the tools necessary to copy songs off and iPod and back onto your PC.

    Version: iGadget 3.3

    "Warning!"

by sfbowman on March 29, 2007

    Pros: Well, it works...

Cons: However, if you have changed the start and stop times of your tunes within the option screen of iTunes, be warned: those modifications do NOT transfer when you use iGadget! If you're like me, with many thousands of such modifications (in order to cut out silence between tracks), then this is a deal-breaker. I had to go back to the iTunes library on my old computer (thank goodness it still works), and make AAC copies of every single track, then update my iPod from that library, before I could try another transfer to my new computer.
