Although there have been several shareware choices to allow you to copy songs from your iPod to your computer, the freeware field has been empty--until now.
iDump offers a clean, spreadsheet-style layout that displays all music on your iPod. That lengthy list can be narrowed via the search function. Songs can be organized by terms as familiar as song name or artist to the more esoteric year, bit rate, or even location on the iPod. The app displays the song's iPod path, cracking Apple's unusual file-saving protocol. A main window tab takes you to output options, and from there you just have to choose your songs and hit Copy. Clicking once on a song selects it, and there's also a smart feature that plays the song you've selected in iTunes. Clocking in at under 1MB, iDump is small enough to live on your iPod. We'll let you figure out why that's a good thing.
iDump does have some stability problems, and it doesn't automatically import backed-up songs into iTunes once they've been copied to your hard drive, a definite drawback. Those are small quibbles, though, compared to what you get for free.
Publisher's description
From CodersHole :This program will allow you copy your songs from your iPod to a PC, iDump does come wrapped in installer but you can simply drop the .exe in the root directory on your iPod and run it from there. Connect your iPod and run iDump and you'll have access to all your songs, select the songs you want to transfer then pick a destination directory and how you would like your songs to be named. And then sit back and copy all the selected songs to the PC.
Version 27 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

Version: iDump Build 28
"It couldn't be easier to copy songs from ipod to pc!"
Pros: This thing was unbelievably easy to download and use. The user interface couldn't possibly be made easier! If you want todump your tunes from your Ipod back onto your computer this is the tool. The tunes I copied magically appeared in Media player.
Cons: Sorry- at this time I have nothing negative to say about this sweet sweet download.
Summary: Sreiously, I don't see how this little download could be improved in any substantial way. When I checked off all the tunes in a 3 disk set I expected (for some reason) for IDump to chew on on them for a long time and have a glacial progress window,... read more >>

"Very nice program, simple to use"
Pros: Once I downloaded to desktop (as suggested by another reviewer), it worked fine. Dumped my entire Nano right where I wanted it on my PC.
Cons: Couldn't get program to work on first few tries as I had a shortcut that wouldn't work (for some reason). After running the installer, and pointing it to my desktop, it worked like a charm.
Summary: Very simple program, does its dump just liked it's supposed to. Other than the caveat in ''cons' above, it is great.

Version: iDump Build 28
Pros: This forum forces me to enter 10 char minimum, so if I must say something "pro", I will say that it was not the worst waste of time I've ever had.
Cons: After install, shortcut won't find program. I couldn't find it either. I reinstalled and created a new folder. Then reinstalled and found it in the folder I created. Still wouldn't work - said it was missing a component. I'm no techie. I give up.
Summary: Sounds good if you can get it to work. If anyone out there knows how, please advise.
