Although there have been several shareware choices to copy songs from your iPod to your computer, the freeware field has been empty--until iDump came along.
A clean, spreadsheet-style layout displays all music from the iPod attached to your computer, and is narrowed to a playlist through a drop-down menu or a specific song search. Songs can be organized by everything from song name or artist to bit rate, year, or even location on the iPod. iDump displays the song's iPod path, cracking Apple's unusual file-saving protocol. A main window tab takes you to output options, and from there you simply choose your songs and hit copy. Clicking once on a song selects it, and there's also a smart feature that plays the song you've selected in iTunes. The app also clocks in at under 1MB, so it's small enough to live on your iPod. We'll let you figure out why thats a good thing.
The only drawback to iDump is that it doesn't automatically import the songs into iTunes once they've been copied to your hard drive. Thats a small quibble, though, compared to the usefulness that this app offers up for free.
Publisher's description
From CodersHole :This program will allow you to transfer your songs of your iPod to a PC. iDump does come wrapped in a installer but you can simply drop the .exe in the root directory on your iPod and run it from there. Connect you iPod and run iDump and you'll have access to all your songs, select the songs you want to transfer then pick a destination directory and how you would like your songs to be named. And then sit back and transfer all the selected songs to the PC. Version 1.1 added a translation for our Spanish users, Kindly done by one of our users. Fixed the bug when searching and selecting songs, you would get file not found. Moved the progress bars back in to the status bar which looks better.

"greatest program for ipod to computer transfers!"
Pros: This is just what I was looking for! It's a totally self-contained program that can run off my ipod, so if I want to transfer songs to another computer, I don't need to install a program on that computer!
Cons: Nothing! It's great!

Version: iDump 1.1
Pros: So Far, not a great deal as it has not worked.
Cons: An almost total lack of instructions left me using the previous reviews to get started. Once installed and running, i selected tracks from the iPod and tried to output them into iTunes folder but it wouldn't let me. Created a folder on my desktop to recieve files and tried again. Upon clicking 'start' the thing just freezes mid transfer. After trying a few other ideas, and getting the same result [freeze] i decided to give up and write this.
Annoying!
