Version: i-Cafe 1
"For the price it is a good piece of software."
Pros: I've been using this software for about 1 year and a half, administering a small cafe in the US. For the price I would say it is a good value. It is stable, the program has never crashed & never made any computer crash. The client software prevents users from shutting down, restarting, or logging out of windows (which is good). Only I have 2 complaints which is that 1 - it does not keep records, and 2 - that the print-monitor feature does not always work, depending on your network.
I must mention that this software is definitely not for beginners. You must know something about group policy and networking before using it.
The first version of this software had a couple bugs in it for instance - it would not accept a 0 in any of the IP addresses in third place (ex 192.168.0.x -->should be 192.168.1.x). That should be fixed in this version.
It took a while to be able to get it working with my network, but the good thing is that the author of the software is very helpful and quick in response, he went through the troubleshooting process and updated the software for me.
I have tried the trial versions of a few of the more expensive cafe softwares and I could never get any tech support; but with this software, the author was very helpful and supportive.
The reason I chose this software is that it is very simple and bare bones. - because users can still have access to the desktop and all software on the computer. You must lock down all of your computers with group policy in windows, which for me is preferable to other softwares that don't let users access the desktop or all software you installed for them.
