This mostly standard audio utility simply converts files and rips CDs, but it works without a hitch. dBpowerAmp Music Converter has separate interfaces for extracting audio from discs and batch converting tunes. In our tests, the program showed good speed. It can even rip some protected audio CDs and includes a basic player.
It queries CD information from the Web and can automatically create subfolders and name tracks. To keep the download size small, it only includes MP3 (LAME) and WAV codecs, though you can easily download and install additional components from the publisher's site. Similar to other utilities in this genre, dBpowerAmp Music Converter lets you determine the audio quality of your new files, though it also offers an ample number of presets.
Also, unlike some competing programs, this demo will let you rip or transform as many files as you like for a full month. Most people who rip and convert audio files occasionally will find something to like about dBpowerAmp Music Converter, particularly novices.

Version: dBpoweramp Music Converter 12.4
"this once was a great program"
Pros: when it was ironically actually free to use, and the fee was a "shareware" price without nag screens.
The more it costs to buy the worse the program seems to get - go figure?
Cons: It charges for MP3 conversions when there are several FREE 100% options downloadable online.
The GUI (user interface) is COUNTER-intuitive, and thus confusing. If he'd just follow the usual expectations for a basic GUI it would far more useful.
Help with the program is pathetic. The developer assumes everyone is eager to sift through pages and pages of "help text" and "forums" to find the answer to his problem.
The problem is while many people may indeed have the same problem, most people do not speak the jargon and can describe identical things completely differently - SOOOOO having to search through the forums is a huge time taking endeavor. Then the basic help info sucks.
The guy needs to get someone who knows how to "talk to people" to handle this stuff. It's pretty clear he is a classic computer person who finds it impossible to talk to anyone below his level of expertise, and thinks anyone who is not on his level is just lazy or not trying hard enough.
That's too bad, considering that when it first came out it was great, but now alternatives have caught up, and there is far less reason for anyone experiencing more than a few minutes of frustration to put up with it let alone buy it.

Version: dBpoweramp Music Converter 12.4
Pros: Easy to convert multiple files
Cons: I do not like the new VBR ; I am more partial to being able to choose my setting. I always picked the 192kbps setting myself; and I like being able to choose my speed for MP3s.
