From WrenSoft :Zoom is a package for Web developers to easily add a powerful search engine to a Web site server. Fast search results are made possible by pre-indexing. Unlike other solutions relying on server-side software, Zoom does this from the convenience of your own Windows computer. Features include: spider & offline indexing modes, searching of DOC, PDF, PPT, XLS files, wildcard searches, exact phrase matching, Windows GUI indexer, Google like results, and logging. PHP or ASP is required on the server to run the search script. The Zoom search engine is compatible with IIS and Apache Web servers and a Javascript version is available for CD searching. A free edition is also available for smaller Web sites.
Version 4.0 build 1011 supports additional languages, IFrame, and RTF format.

"This product is excellent and well worth getting"
Pros: This product is excellent. I started up the program and was immediately introduced to a welcome screen and a wizard which makes the whole process extremely quick.
The software includes support for many languages, including PHP, CGI, and ASP. There are many ways to customise the default template, and plugins to download from the website. The plugins allow for the user to be able to search PDF, DOC and many other formats including SWF.
I recommend this product to anyone needing a fast, reliable search engine.

"Easy to use and excelent value"
Pros: I am very happy with Zoom. I recognize only three speeds with computers
(1) The computer is waiting for me
(2) I am waiting for the computer
(3) I have given up waiting for the computer
With Zoom (using cgi) it is always #1
I started by writing a PHP program to query about 25,000 rows in a MySQL database and reached the point of basic testing only to find relies in the #2-3 range. Zoom, using pre-indexing, is 100 times as fast. On top of all that, Support is fast, through and friendly - an unusual and much appreciated combination. Plus, it is inexpensive and thus afordable for my non-commercial service. It is very easy to set up and very, very fast.
Cons: It is missing two features of the more complex search engines: (1) an exclusion operator (- in Google); and (2) the ability to group with () that you get in Lexis/Nexis.

"Simple to use but powerful search engine. Highly recommended!"
Pros: I wanted a website search tool that was not dependant on a DBMS. Zoom fitted my requirements perfectly.
Not only are a range of webserver and script types supported, the offline data generation tool is a breeze to use and configure. Within half an hour of finding the link in Google, I had set up a functioning search page on my webserver...
There are however enough options to keep most tinkerers happy - from result format customisation to indexing scheduling to direct access to search scripts - all accessable from the offline tool.
This tool is perfect for anyone wanting to create an integral search facility on their website.
Highly recommended.
