This simple freeware application works pretty well, given how basic the interface is. It has two main features: to download FLV files from YouTube, and to convert them to most major formats. If there's a YouTube URL in your clipboard, it will automatically paste it for you when you click on the dialog box. From there, just hit OK and the downloading will commence. One more left-click is all it takes to load the file in the converter, which supports iPhone, iPod, PSP, cell phone, AVI, MP3, WMV, and Xvid. Surprisingly, there's also a basic video editor for cropping videos by time stamp. You can also cut out the sound when converting.
This is one of the lightest editors around, but the simplistic interface belies its functionality and it performs exactly as advertised. We'd like to see support in future editions for hunting down missing codecs, and version 2.1.5 and earlier won't work because of embed code changes on YouTube itself. Still, the YouTube Downloader is proof that not only is video-making accessible to everyone, so is video downloading and editing.

The video conversion from .flv to other formats is a good idea.
Cons
Not the best, nor user-friendly interface. Those who naturally explore their computer, software, apps, etc, will probably 'feel' their way around in a trial and error fasion as I have when first using the program.
Summary
If its just the flv format that you would like to download, a better choice would be Realplayer, for example. Its great to know where the flv file is downloaded to in comparison to the YouTube downloader. The first few times you kinda have to guess, (or use intuition and search the folder where the original file was downloaded to for conversion.)

I was actually download it yesterday..At first i have a doubt but now that I'm using it I really enjoy using this software. I just got this one from a source in my forum. And I've tried it and shoot.. there it was..really enjoyed it as of the moment.
Cons
Maybe need to have more adds on in the future, so as to navigate the software easily especially for the newbies. Thanks.

Many great options varying from a quality to a base volume option. Does what was required and then some.

The one thing I didn't like about this that's worth mentioning is that it didn't have an option to downloading ONLY the audio file. (That or I couldn't find one)

An amazing download. This was 100% worth the download. It took any youtube video that I wanted and converted it perfectly. I look forward to updates.

It's a great converter and it's FREE! I haven't had ONE problem with it and have seen others that are charging for virtually the same thing that don't even work. You can't lose with the You Tube Downloader 2.5.
