CNET Editors' review
Those strictly interested in a Yahoo IM client for the iPhone could find themselves a shade disappointed with OneConnect, a free application that attempts to weave elements of social networking and an interactive address book into Yahoo's chatting core. While we appreciate the opportunities to scan status updates from pals on social networks, and to build out address books from which we can SMS or call a buddy, these are mostly secondary efforts to buy up social networkers' bandwidth.
Despite some clumsiness of operation (you have to go through a contact's page to send an IM,) there is still enough appeal to make OneConnect firmly worthwhile--notably the ability to SMS or e-mail offline friends and to drop emoticons, links, and photos into a chat window. Also nice is being able to view all contacts or those who are currently online, and saving buddies to your Favorites list to fast-track communications.
Users keen on all of OneConnect's features will find it much more satisfying; regardless, OneConnect begs for a clearer path to chatting and the ability to customize visual options.
