With a name like a supersecret rocket, X1 Search is more than just hype. Searching e-mail and other files on your hard drive at a breakneck pace, it offers up the results in an organized and malleable index, and now it does it all for free.
The application loads at start-up, runs as a stand-alone utility, and provides flexible indexing options for each folder on your PC so you can, for example, have X1 index filenames and sizes in some folders but only files with specified extensions in others. Favorite searches can be saved, a preview window makes double-checking results painless, and it's compliant with Outlook, Lotus Notes, Thunderbird, Eudora, and other mail-management programs. Cross-referencing among e-mails, attachments, calendars, images, and other files is one of X1's strongest points.
Although it's powerful, X1 is a heavy drain on system resources even at the least aggressive indexing setting. It's been prone to crash in the past, and the initial indexing process can tie up slower machines for more than 30 minutes. X1 also distinguishes between regular Outlook and Outlook Express, which can make configuration confusing.
Still, for users with powerful machines looking for lightning-fast, comprehensive desktop search, X1 Search has shot way past most of its competitors.

Pros: x1 is a great program on so many levels. Its easy to set up & use, I use it often & it has helped me find whatever I need each time. It's fast & displays results immediately as you type each letter in the search box and provides a preview of the file
Cons: There aren't any cons, I've used x1 for many years and find it better than all other search programs. From time to time I have tested other search programs and none are as good as x1.
Summary: I highly recommend x1
It can be customised easily to index any or all folders you want and ignore other folders that contain irrelevant files such as "Program Files" or "Windows"
