Even though we could have done without the nag screen, this free disk cleaning utility performed very well during our tests. Even beginners will appreciate how easy it is to use.
When you first install Wise Disk Cleaner 3 Free, you're taken to the publisher's Web site for more information about the program. Each time we accessed Wise Disk Cleaner 3 Free, we received a nag screen asking if we wanted to upgrade to the paid professional version. It was easily bypassed, but became something of a nuisance. A helpful wizard appeared at start-up, and walked us through the disk cleaning process. First, you choose from a long list of file extensions to include in the cleanup. The next step is to select the drives or folders you want to clean, and choose from a list of cleaning options, such as deleting cookies and temporary files. The last step is to choose to run the program in either auto-run or manual mode, and whether you want the files permanently deleted or sent to your recycle bin. Once we went through the wizard, we were sent to the main user interface to click the Scan button. Considering the task at hand, the program worked extremely fast to pull up all of the junk files according to our specifications. It took a little time for the program to delete and send the files to the Recycle Bin, but we were able to continue working during the process.
Our test computer's performance noticeably improved after running the program. Users of all levels will find Wise Disk Cleaner 3 Free easy to use and effective, and the nag screen was a small price to pay for this freeware utility.

It also works fast when both scanning for files and deleting files.

"Virus! Found by Bit Defender."
Pros: Sad, I've used other of there items in the past. But this was bad...
Cons: The product worked like a charm, the problem started when I downloaded the update. See below in summary...
Summary: It ended up I had to manually delete stuff off my computer. I also had to go in and turn off system restore. Turning off system restore deletes everything stored there. But it worked, and so far so good.

"Deleted Needed Files/Registry Entries"
Pros: Saved disk space.
Cons: Seems to delete many files based on extension. You can change the list and review files before deleting, but if you are intimately familiar with all the software on your machine you might be out of luck. Can't run AVG, many Start menu folders empty
Summary: Since running Wise Disk and Registry Cleaners XP reports AVG is turned off (3 computers) and Administrative Tool folder and several other start menu folders are not displayed or are empty ( 1 computer).

Pros: Gee. I do use their other freeware (see below).
Cons: When I updated avast! to its latest build (4.8.1351) today, it picked up part of Wise Disk Cleaner as a virus.
Summary: Sorry - given how often Wise reissues their other other freeware (Wise Registry Cleaner) and how often what they put out has bugs in it and must be replaced the very next day, on this one I'm going to side with avast! and agree that it's too risky. ... read more >>
