CNET Editors' review
A novice user's nightmare, Windows Set is poorly designed, barely explained, and potentially destructive. This app is yet another security and optimizing executable. The program's interface is a loose collection of radio buttons arranged in five tabs. Some items are self-explanatory, but the vast majority will be unintelligible to any but power users. Implementing the wrong setting could destabilize your system.
Users will have little confidence in this application, with its many misspellings and complete lack of any help files or instructions. Our testers found many settings simply didn't update the system as promised. There is no method to store a configuration set and restore it. The Auto Optimize function left our system less than optimal.
The publisher advertises this as a green optimizer, but we didn't find that it improved XP's power settings. A dedicated system administrator might wring a useful setting or two out of Windows Set, but a novice could easily cause more harm than good. There are plenty of better security, power, and setting optimizer applications available. There's no need to give this one a test.
