"Does not run in Mac OSX 10.7 Lion (Rats!)"
Version: WindowShade X 5.0.7
Pros
Since I am unable to collapse Windows there are no Pros.
Cons
The required Application Enhancer is not compatible with 10.7
Summary
Apparently still requires Rosetta (no longer available in 10.7). When accessing WindowShade from Application Enhancer PreferencePane, the following is displayed: "Mac OS X version too new. Application Enhancer has not been tested on Mac OS X 10.7 and therefore WindowShade X will not be loaded."

"Can't get it to work."
Version: WindowShade X 5.0.7
Pros
Works great during the free trial period.
Cons
Even though I bought the haxie it just wouldn't work at all.
Summary
Accidentally typed the wrong user name and password into the software to activate it but the info still went through but the haxie would not work at all. There was no way for me to re-enter the information.
UNSANITY'S CUSTOMER SERVICE IS VIRTUALLY NON EXISTENT. No phone number offered; only an email can be sent to them that will NEVER get answered.
I have already submitted a complaint by the BBB. -
"Use at your own risk!"
Version: WindowShade X 5.0.6
Pros
Restores a very valuable feature that Apple eliminated in the move to OS X.
Cons
It's a system haxie -- meaning that it messes with the operating system. Not good.
Summary
I love what WindowShade does. I hated it when Apple abandoned that feature in the move to OS X. I was elated when I discovered that WindowShade restored that functionality. Unfortunately, it relies on Application Enhancer ("APE") to accomplish it. APE is notorious for causing all sorts of problems. If you've never experienced any of them, you're lucky.
For years I read all the warning about system haxies, and for years I ignored them. WindowShade was a real time saver, and once you get used to having it, it's hard to live without it. I admit that I sorely miss it now that I've stopped using it. But APE is too dangerous to use. It prevented a system reboot after an upgrade to Leopard on my G5 -- an event that spun up the fans and fried the G5 before I could shut it down.
That convinced me to stop using system haxies. The arguments still rage back and forth on that subject, but I've learned my lesson. As valuable as WindowShade is, it's not worth the downside. Use it at your own risk. -

"Once again my Mac Soars LIke the Eagle"
Version: WindowShade X 5.0.2
Pros
Hey - It's WindowShade
Nuff SaidCons
Spent 2 years in the depths of dark despair waiting for its Return
Summary
Ok ok
Yes, a lot of hyperbole, but ...
Everyone probably has their own 'way' of managing their computer's virtual desktop
Just as we do our Real Desktops, Counters, Workbench, etc
For the Office, Home Office, Kitchen, Shop, Shelves, Closets, etc
Some like one way, others swear by another
But for me WindowShade had been a reflex for more than 10 years
.
Apple/Mac System Software in the 1990s had this WindowShade Feature built in
But, for some reason, it did not make the cut with OSX (who knows why?)
However, Unsanity filled the void, Thank You
Then, for some other reason (who knows why?)
Even Unsanity was unable - at least quickly - to stay with OSX 10.5 Leopard
Well, now they finally have
Thank You Unsanity - Thank You
The last 2 weeks have been a Return to Paradise
.
Now, if you don't know WindowShade and what it does ?
Well, give it a try, believe they have a trial period
Imagine you'll instantly see its value and worth
And could even Think Different about how you manage your 'space'

"Well oiled application. No customer relations."
Version: WindowShade X 5.0.2
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
There is no doubt that WindowShade id a very well crafted application.
I use it often and it works without a hitch.
Just don't try to contact the developer though, I think they must direct all incoming "support" mail to a SPAM folder. If they could run the company without customers and make some money, I'm sure they would do it in a heartbeat. Anyway this is a great little app and its functionality should really be part of the Mac OS. -
"What a relief!"
Version: WindowShade X 5.0.1
Summary

It's been a long time coming to Snow Leopard but at least it's finally here and it works exactly like it used to. I for one don't mind paying the upgrade fee which is fairly cheap when you look around at other apps. You really don't know how much of a difference collapsing the windowbar makes until you don't have that functionality. Personally I think it should be built into the OS. This is one application where I really have no compunction in awarding five stars - now all they have to do is get the sister programs operating in Snow Leopard. -
"It took quite awhile but it's back."
Version: WindowShade X 5.0.1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I decided to wait until I paid the upgrade fee rather than the donation option since I wasn't sure whether they were going to follow through with their plans to upgrade it. I'm glad now that I did because it took the usual l-o-n-g time for them to get it out the door. The software works fairly well but there seems to be a slight lag time when you double click. The lag is only about 2 seconds so it's not that bad for me. I can live with it. I'm just glad they are keeping this thing alive. -
"WindowShade X v5.0.1 is out"
Version: WindowShade X 4.3
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Today Unsanity updated to Windowshade X v5.0.1. You can actually download this version if you weren't on the beta testing team. Hurray. Works perfectly. I'm informing VT.
Please note: The version 5 series requires an UPGRADE payment for current owners. I'm being offered â?? off the standard price. I'm gladly paying it.
My only criticism of Unsanity is, as others have indicated, they are developers who get to projects when they get to them. Their communication / marketing skills are spotty at best. They are generally very slow to catch up to new revisions of Mac OS X. Nonetheless, when they get there, their products are excellent and quite unique. Windowshade X is a requirement on all my Macs. No one else develops anything similar or nearly as useful.
History: Windowshade was a worldwide favorite shareware program in the Mac OS 7.1 days. Apple bought it at put it into future versions of Mac OS. It never made it into Mac OS X. Thank you Unsanity for keeping it alive and available and adding further kewl features. -
