The reigning top dog of the utility world gets some nice behind-the-scenes improvements while maintaining the familiar usability and interface that we've come to trust. WinZip is still king at creating ZIP archives, and this new version expands its kingdom on a number of fronts. New features include AES 128- and 256-bit encryption for tighter security, an improved compression algorithm that gives you better compression ratios, and new technologies that remove the size restrictions on ZIP archives. Other handy features include a user-friendly zipping wizard, a split archive function that converts even very large ZIP files into manageable sizes for easier e-mailing, span-disk capability for complete backups, integration with virus-protection software, and the ability to drop whole programs into one self-extracting archive.
Although this is the most compatible version to date, WinZip still relies on ZIP alone to archive your files. We would have liked to see support for RAR, ISO, and ACE archives. Overall, however, WinZip is a fantastic program, and the new features improve on what it does best. Whether you're an old pro or a new user, this is a must-have upgrade.

Publisher's description
From WinZip Computing :WinZip is the original and most popular of all Windows ZIP file utilities. Wizard/Classic interfaces accommodate both first-time and experienced users. With WinZip you can quickly and easily compress and decompress files, folders, and entire folder trees to save storage space and reduce e-mail-transmission time, as well as encrypt and decrypt your sensitive documents. Features include tight integration with Windows Explorer, support for most Internet file formats, and one-click zipping and e-mail.
Editor's note: WinZip is now bundled with Google Toolbar and Google Desktop Search. Installation of these components is optional.

Version: WinZip 10
"WinZip was the best......once"
Cons: Sorry, WinZip, I'm afraid you have become obsolete. You can not open rar, ace, or iso files. You need to get with the times. You were my favorite two years ago, but now you are a dinosaur.

"This is the perfect program to use for maintaining archives."
Pros: I would definately use this product and have used its previous versions alot. Some small improvements make this top notch program the best I've tried in terms of stability and usefulness.
Cons: WinZip is now bundled with Google Toolbar and Google Desktop Search. Two items that I truly despise. Sad to see them promoting it.

"I still like this first zip software"
Pros: This is still my fav atchiving tool, well, maybe i'm been using it for so long that I'm can't bear to change for another. Not much complains about it, except it can't unzip RAR files

"DVD-writeing? AES 256bit encryption? Schedulded jobs? You'll get all!"
Pros: I wonder if Standars/Pro? Anyway, good to see that finally they could solve the uninstalling with dll removeing. I think it's still very good that none of the other - compression tools what i know well - companies have created Quick Start for their product. I also liked the extensive CHM help file.
One big advantage is the createing of jobs, what you can log. This makes WinZip much better in a company environment than any other archiver tools. I'd also suggest to get sneak preview of it's DVD-writeing support (which is not come with your OS), what can be used at jobs, too. The encryption - i met with others saying it can't but YES, it can use encryption (maybe they used much older versions) - will come in handy, too.
Cons: Uncheck those Google checkboxes: not against google, against these - absolutly useless for me - products.
(personal: Uncheck "Include WinZip on desktop)
When it selects associations, it should only select the kinds which doesn't already have (costs time to uncheck). It's a bit sad that it only knows 18 extensions.
At update configuration i don't see the point to choose week or day because as far as i know WinZip they won't release any new items within a month. You can associate virus-scanners with the archiver but i always wonder why as which is that AV that can't scan archives?
Maybe they are hardly against their own rules but it's 2006 anyway, multilanguage support is a plus (1 star minus). I'd love to see some skins, too.
Even if this is quite a veteran zip archiver, i know more other tools which can compress better the grapics. Also, SFX createing is somewhere included, not separated and there's a cap limit for maximum ZIP file size.
