At some point, every computer user has watched her PC churn and wondered if there were some way to tune it up. Experienced hackers can get into the guts and do it themselves, but for ordinary computer users there are programs like WinXP Manager, which help tweak settings to speed performance, start-up, and shutdown.

The suite gives access to the inner workings of the XP operating system, including the Registry, file system, security settings, and details of the interface. The program's own compact interface effectively keeps this wealth of options organized, and an easy-to-use wizard helps guide new users through the initial process of optimizing the PC.

We recommend WinXP Manager to inexperienced computer users who want to boost the performance of their systems without digging into the internals.

"Like System Bleach- Know What You're Doing"

by TrueRoyalty on July 24, 2007

Pros: It works. It'll show you things on your computer you didn't know a computer actually had, and then it'll offer to get rid of it for you. It's an excellent, EXCELLENT tool- IF (and I stress that) you are completely confident and sure you know exactly what you're trying to find and wipe out, and what doing so will leave your computer without. If you're uncertain, even a little, about what something is or whether or not you (or the computer) need(s) it, DO NOT DELETE IT. There are some things, as annoyingly high-kb/mb as they may get, that ARE necessary for programs to run correctly, even if you didn't know they were there in the first place. Yeah, that would be personal experience talking. Fortunately, I'm not completely computer illiterate, so I was able to fix the dumb damage I did, but it's better to just uncheck or leave alone the questionables. Bleach is a great cleanser, but you need to know what you're doing with it and what reaction it'll cause before you start cleaning your hardwood floors and darkwash jeans with it.

Cons: Well, I never reached the end of the trial, because I accidently deleted something apparently vital to the XP Manager's program and it wouldn't work anymore (I'm here to re-download). But it did exactly what it said it would, and I can't fault it for my mistake. Like I said above, just PLEASE be careful (especially if you have sensitive documents on your computer! The last thing you need is to wipe out three years of TurboTax or something because of a misclick or a missed unclick) when using it. If you need a system cleaner/manager, this will definately do the job. ...I guess that's not much of a con, is it?

    "Helped ALOT"

    by MrCairo9 on July 27, 2007

Pros: Removed thousands of invalid registry entries that all other programs ignored. Now registry isn't overflowing with entries about programs I uninstalled 3 years ago. Also helped to speed up startup and optimize alot of setting. Very Very Handy

    "MONEY - FIRST!"

by John Fitchpatrick on July 23, 2007

Pros: How can I tell? It is not "FREE!" When I downloaded it and tried to "RUN IT!" I was told - "MY TRIAL HAD ESCAPED!" I don't quite understand "ESCAPED!" nor "EXPIRED!" This was a "CNET" notification of an available "UPDATE!" So much for checking and testing! YOU CAN'T RUN IT TILL YOU "BUY IT!"

Cons: How can I tell? It is not "FREE!" When I downloaded it and tried to "RUN IT!" I was told - "MY TRIAL HAD ESCAPED!" I don't quite understand "ESCAPED!" nor "EXPIRED!" This was a "CNET" notification of an available "UPDATE!" It would be nice if "someone" would get their "act - informatiion" straight!

"only 3 stars til it becomes Vista compatable"

    by merlot_1 on July 22, 2007

Pros: Still one of my favorite utilities. WinXP Manager has a Registry cleaner, disk cleaner, registry defragmenter, memory optimizer, startup manager, program uninstaller, process manager, icon changer, duplicate file finder, junk finder and cleaner, wallpaper changer, desktop cleaner, privacy protector, windows utilities, and more. WinXP Manager will backup your registry and create a restore point if you are worried it might possibly delete something important, but on my pc it only deleted unecessary and junk files. WinXP Manager found 330 errors that my other registry cleaners missed. Some of the errors were remains of software products that I had uninstalled 1/2 year ago! WinXP Manager is awesome, try it you will be happy you did and your pc will be faster!

Cons: Locked up on my Vista, hope they get this corrected soon.
