"Just the worst."

There are absolutely none.

It's built into nearly so many utilities and apps I try to download and leaches onto all of my browsers so that I have to go and uninstall them one by one, extension by extension- and sometimes I have to start in safe mode just to get my browser to uninstall. This is serious malware- unwanted and forced program, that usually comes with several other things. I don't know if it exactly whitesmoke's fault, or if it's CNET, but it very much unappreciated and frustrating. It should be illegal.
Summary
Maybe I don't know enough about PCs yet, but it is a serious pain and very stressful to have to worry about an invasive toolbar/program/app every time I download a new program. Could someone tell me if just CNET? Should I just download from somewhere else?

it's kind of a cool idea, I could see this being a very helpful application.
Cons
I have never come across such a terrible software company before. The software worked sporadically, repeatedly invited viruses/malware onto my computer within the white smoke program files. I made a sizable investment with the software and was left very disappointed. When I talked to the live chat operators for help with my product, they offered me none, but repeatedly tried to sell me add on software.
I don't know why this company just doesn't invest its energy into making a great product. Instead they seem focused on scamming people. I'm not surprised that CNET has allowed white smoke back on their download site. I remember when download.com used to be a name you can trust. Now there are in bed with so many third parties it's ridiculous. Integrity for sale!Summary

I guess it will detect some spelling and grammar errors, but not necessarily better than Word.
Cons
WhiteSmoke only works when connected to the Internet, since it connects to the company server each time you check a sentence. Often it gives errors because the servers are busy, slow Internet, etc.
Even though when I purchased the software there was no indication that this was a time-limited product, they canceled my license and, since WhiteSmoke only works after checking with its servers, it stopped working and now they want more money to activate it again. So this is really a scam!Summary

Not only is the product border near worthless, but I've had enough of their unethical behavior.
I purchase a perpetual license a couple of years ago during one of their Christmas specials. Now they're saying I have to buy another license to continue its use. When I called to found out what was going on I was told that their newly installed billing system could not handle the perpetual license, so I'd have to buy another one. Talk about shady dealings! -

Full marks to the advertising department, they do a very good job of making gross sound like just what you need...
Cons
You need a permanent connection to their server, i.e. everything you request to be checked is not done locally on your own private PC / Laptop, it's sent to their server for processing... If your not comfortable with your text being sent over the internet, and lets face it, some stuff is personal and or confidential and all you want is a grammar check, not it being sent over the internet to somewhere unknown...
Their grammar checker persistently gives poor advice on corrections.
More than once when I requested a sentence to be checked, Whitesmoke grabbed the text to be examined and then returned nothing... this means you lose everything you just typed in, extremely annoying and frustrating...Summary
If your not comfortable with your private and or confidential text being sent over the internet for checking, ask yourself if this is the right program for you?

I cannot seem to get rid of it, it must be attached to the webrowser Google Chrome, because I cannot explain how I keep getting it when I depete it.

Do you like spam, viruses, a slow computer and over paying? If so this is the software for you!
Cons
There isn't enough space to write them all but the sales tactics are as good a place to start. Whitesmoke is sold through an affiliates program. The affiliates pre-purchase the software and resell it to you. Pricing is all over the map the range is $40.00 to $400.00 but don't think the more expensive version offers more. If you overpay, the affiliate makes a nice profit so getting you to overpay is part of the game. Right after you buy the software all the affiliates get sent your email. Offers for discounts will fill your spam folder. Offers for an updated version will fill you spam folder.
But lets be clear this software sucks and there is no customer support. Why would there be? The company makes it's profits of the friends and family plan. (Friends and families are the first people the affiliates rope into buying this crap.)Affiliates are why you see ads for it everywhere.It's not because it's great. There's an army of people desperate to recoup their "investment."Summary
It sucks. It's over priced. It sucks. You'll get viruses and spammed to death. Your most advanced computer will run like a Commodore 64. There's no customer service. In case I forgot to mention it, this program really sucks.

Summary
Be careful what you download. Read before you "agree". Some "Freeware" has this in it's installer. In fact, be suspicious of any installer that is not a simple exe. If it is a third party installer, it's almost guaranteed to have some other installers included with your intended software. Read before you "Accept", "ok" or "Install". No exceptions with freeware and be careful even with software that you buy. This software is a back door and is full of data miners(which aren't bad in themselves but can potentially be).
