CNET Editors' review
Customizing your desktop and screensaver is a fun way to make your computer feel like an extension of your personality. Webshots Desktop offers a way to add professional quality photos to your desktop, but doesn't offer anything different over similar programs.
With a cluttered screen and perplexing tabs, this program's interface is slightly disappointing. The tabs along the top let users view their wallpaper options, two others require registration for favorite members and online photos, and a final lets users look at the saved pictures on their computer. Below are 12 thumbnails of photos the program offers, ranging from landscapes to penguins, and all are very professionally done. To the right of the larger example photo are a series of commands like: Set As Wallpaper, Send Ecard, Order Prints, and View Slideshow.
Webshots Desktop easily applied the photos in its bank as our wallpaper and performed all its other advertised tasks well. However, we failed to be impressed because it didn't offer anything different over Windows' wallpaper program. The professional quality pictures are nice, but aren't beyond anything users couldn't find on their own. Since this is a free download, users have nothing to lose, but we would recommend handling wallpaper yourself as Webshots doesn't offer enough to make us change.

"5 for Webshots... 1 star for Smile"
Version: Webshots Desktop 3.1.5.7617
Pros
Easy to set up all your photoes in 'my pictures'
Once set up, easy to check / uncheck which pictures you want to run.
Fully customizable wallpaper and screensaver programs.Cons
Individual libraries only took 100 pictures so I had to organize my pics in folders by year and then broke the years into folders a,b,c,..etc. A pain in the but, but once set up...
Summary
Since SMILE sucks... my question is, what is the second best screensaver/wallpaper program out there? Once I had webshots I never had to look any further.

"Webshots 10 - Smile 0"
Version: Webshots Desktop 3.1.5.7617
Pros
Webshots was great. Used it for almost 10 years. Loved it, and the screen calendar.
Cons
Webshots offered an "upgrade" to Smile. It's crap. Now I have to first upload my pictures to the web, then download back to my PC for desktop screensaver. Instructions are poor to non existent. It automatically removed my Webshots, and I can not reinstall Webshots as you need to (free) register and it won't let you.
Summary
Stay away from this "Upgrade". Webshots allowed you to label your photos, adjust/rotate your images, etc. Smile does none of this.

"Change for the Worse"
Version: Webshots Desktop 3.1.5.7617
Pros
I have nothing good to say about this change to so-called SMILE.
Cons
I downloaded the new Smile thinking it would work like or similar to the original Webshots! WRONG! I could not get all my photos to migrate to Smile and I didn't see anything that looked like the old Webshots desktop manager! And now I can't find a way to install this Smile mess! I can't find Smile in Program and Features to uninstall it!
Summary
This was a real 'death blow' to a great app that help make each computer unique with photos both professional and amateur! I loved looking at my own photos as wallpaper or screensavers! I'm so sorry I changed (really didn't have a choice) to Smile. It's a waste of time as far as I'm concern and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!

"Not worth the download time!"
Version: Webshots Desktop 3.1.5.7617
Pros
None that I can see.
Cons
I had a ton of photos from the old Webshots I wanted access to. The new "Smile" wouldn't let me access them and was a pain to Install, sign up, login and had NO visible way to import the old photo libraries. Skip it.

"Formerly fine Webshots now pure rubbish called Smile"
Version: Webshots Desktop 3.1.5.7617
Pros
Well, I get to keep at least some of the Webshots pics that I had formerly downloaded as a paying member, but darned if I can easily find anything now with all my former settings gone.
Cons
Every stinking thing about this new travesty. The daily pictures for download are nearly all seasonal or holiday related. Quality is questionable. Selection is a joke compared to Webshots. I don't want to store my photos on Smile, especially when that aspect of it is getting plenty of negative comment. I want to download beautiful pictures, fun pictures - dammit.
Summary
Obviously, I hate, HATE, the changes, but I have to keep the blasted thing in order to access the wallpaper and screen savers I'd paid for through a premium membership on Webshots. This is a classic case of don't mess with something that works, you might just create a giant cesspool of NOPE.

"NOT SMILING"
Version: Webshots Desktop 3.1.5.7617
Pros
None that I can see
Cons
The new smile program is terrible. It's difficult to use and it tries to "do too much".
Summary
Most people already have a photo sharing program and there are many to choose from if you dont. I used webshots simply for wallpaper, screensavers, and custom slideshows. It was absolutely perfect for that. I have no idea what this new crap is trying to do but whatever it is, it isnt being done very well.

"Not a good change"
Version: Webshots Desktop 3.1.5.7617
Pros
Nice pics and great quality
Cons
Not good
Wouldn't work right
Won't show up on list of screen savers in Display functionSummary
I liked Webshots and have used it for years. I don't know why they made the change, except that they were probably bought out. Not a good change. It won't work. I had to change it on my pc and laptop. My pc has Windows XP, but my laptop has Windows 7. I had to remove it from my laptop. It kept asking me to upgrade to Smiles. It hasn't worked on my desktop. I tried to set up the screen saver, but it isn't listed when I go into the display function. So, I either don't have a screen saver or have to chose one of the Windows versions. Don't like it and am going to contact them about it. Good luck if you can use it.

"God and bad"
Version: Webshots Desktop 3.1.5.7617
Pros
I have used webshots for years love it.
Cons
I did not want Webshots as my scrensaver or desktop at this time Inhad already chosen what I wanted. When I downloaded the new webshot it automaticly became my new desk top and screensaver.I did notask for that so why do they assume that I want them to change what I have already done.
