CNET Editors' review
Web of Trust (WOT) for Internet Explorer provides users with a simple meter for gauging a Web site's danger level. With easy to read warnings, this program only leaves one thing to chance with your safety.
The program does not have anything to offer on your computer's desktop because it embeds itself into your Internet Explorer browser for quick access. Depending on the Web site you visit, the program's icon turns red, yellow, or green to illustrate the danger level. Clicking on the icon displays a chart showcasing Trustworthiness, Vendor Reliability, Privacy, and Child Safety. The warnings are intuitive and should not require a trip to the Help file to understand. The program functioned well for our tests, glowing green for popular news sites and red for less reliable pages. Our only complaint is that users must dig into the settings menu to have WOT stop a dangerous site from opening on your computer. So until that time, concerned users may be exposed to potentially harmful sites. However, once this is activated, the program does a great job of warning you and providing the option to continue or stop. WOT also provides interesting features that allow worldwide users to rate Web sites for danger, thus creating an online community of like-minded people.
With a simple interface, easy-to-understand functions, and interesting features, we found this freeware to be a helpful download for users looking to increase their online security.
Publisher's Description
From Against Intuition:
Make your Internet Explorer more secure with the WOT add-on. Keep yourself safe from spyware, adware, spam, viruses, browser exploits, unreliable online shops, phishing, and other Internet scams. With the free WOT browser add-on, you can easily see the reliability of companies and websites. WOT will warn you and save your computer before you interact with a harmful site. WOT, Web of Trust, lets Internet users share their knowledge of websites, helping you stay in control when you surf the Web. Besides its users, WOT uses hundreds of trusted sources such as phishing site listings to keep you protected against rapidly spreading online threats. As you search with Google, you will see a tiny icon next to the Web link: green to go, yellow to slow down, red to stop. WOT has information on 26 million websites, and the reputation database is updated every 30 minutes. WOT ratings are shown also on Yahoo, Gmail, Wikipedia, and other sites.

"Just does not cut it"
Version: Web of Trust for Internet Explorer 20100303
Pros
I un-installed 2 hours aftre installing it
Cons
Wrong results and biased results

I just can't trust a piece of software that allows others who might have an interest in the site to provide an opinion.
-
"A very dependable guide to unknown web sites."
Version: Web of Trust for Internet Explorer 20100303
Pros
Solid performance with regular updates continues to define trusted sites.
Cons
Some sites are very destructive and should be avoided at all costs but no stay away warning for the really dangerous sites exists.
Summary
Very helpful wandering the web looking for new sites, 100% reliable as a guide, quick to react when browsing and uses few resources on the computer.
-
"this is a good feature and works on history"
Version: Web of Trust for Internet Explorer 20100303
Pros
the color indication is fine and it is something I can trust
Cons
although it works well the positioning is not always centered before you enter a site but when you are into any given site it shows quite well at the end of the top line which gives you a choice
Summary
i like the overall function of this tool but again while web surfing it only shows the potential warniings and has no stopage of sitr entering so for a visual tool its good but with no sound or other functions keep your security on when others may have access and don't realize what it's function is

Version: Web of Trust for Internet Explorer 20100303
Pros
You can,t beat that warning before you enter a site, it makes you pause and think about what you are about to do.
Cons
Seems to be a bit easy to brand a site as spam, or a scam these things need to be verified.
-
"Needs to rethink how sites are rated."
Version: Web of Trust for Internet Explorer 20100303
Pros
-Has warned me about sites that were malicious
-Takes up little to no resources
-Better than steadvisorCons
Not always accurate in its rating. Anyone can rate a website
Summary
In theory this is an excellent program, just the way websites are rated needs to be changed.
There are many great people in the WOT rating community, however there are still far too many people who rate sites poorly based on false information or reasonings. -
"Scans web pages for porn, and security risks."

Allows ANYONE to rate a site good or bad, even if the site isn't what the user said it was. (Their site is very much umoderated.) Also jams registry up with empty code.
Summary
Overall, I don't like this program one bit. As I said, this program has ethical issues
