"Dumped all hidden and user files into Google index"
Version: Web of Trust for Google Chrome 0.5 beta
Pros
Sounds like a forum for security professionals, but it's not. It's a forum for criminals, but very effective for them.
Cons
Delete it, uninstall it, tell your security team to deny access to it by policy.
We provide our clients with security guidance, and when a friend complained he had got a bad review I needed to investigate for myself. Not only are all the worst reviews true, I got a chance to experience first hand how the token was treated at the web site being reviewed. Our Google index suddenly included everything that was set to disallow in robot.txtSummary
It's a good think we do not collect the email address of our users. Had we used the presentation only site for any other type of business, everything in our website would have been exposed. Right after adding WOT token, our traffic leaped from 172K world rank to 169K rank, but our analytics did not show an increase in kind. When we searched keyword rank for products that are very proprietary to our web site we got returns for a site called massemailblasts.com. This included hundreds of thousands of email lists, separated into folders by country and business domains. I am certain the multi-part scheme includes elevating a sites rank, gaining access to the identities of the users, then broadcasting that site as having value for types of users and harvesting the user behaviors. We reported all findings and massemailblasts is taken down. WOT, however, is still out there. It needs to go away for good.
We won't allow any user data on our site until we can move to a hybrid environment. WOT has had real financial and reputation damaging impact to us. Our website remains "view only" and we check McAfee site adviser and examine our folders for changes every day. It stinks that we were given so much grief using a tool that was supported by Google Chrome. Seems like this just shouldn't be possible. How would we feel if we learned that phones enabled all our conversations to be monitored? How is our browsing behavior any different? -
"Not trust worthy"
Version: Web of Trust for Google Chrome 0.5 beta

"Scam as others have mentioned, extortion is their game."
Version: Web of Trust for Google Chrome 0.5 beta
Pros
Web of Trust lawsuit in effect right now, thank goodness.
Cons
Web of Trust is a scam where you can find your perfectly safe website with a low rating from your competitors and not be able to do anything about it unless you pay off WoT with extortion money.
Hopefully, more and more lawsuits will shut these guys down and their current profits and assets will end up going back to the people they've ruined and hindered with their horrific business practices.
Of course, they aren't transparent and will even hypocritically hide persistent cookies, etc. in your browser even after you delete/uninstall the extension.
To make matters worse, Facebook is using them to keep a captive audience in their walled garden with scare tactics to make people think safe websites are dangerous links.
I can only imagine how many lives these people have ruined. Web of Trust needs to be destroyed. -
"Web of Mistrust"
Version: Web of Trust for Google Chrome 0.5 beta
Pros
Letting users rate websites for safety and trust sounds like a good idea.
Cons
False reviews are common. The WOT developers make money by selling "trust seals" to those who fear WOT's negative ratings. They actually reward the users who give the most negative reviews to thousands of sites.
Summary
Don't trust it.

"Use beta or developer version of Chrome"
Version: Web of Trust for Google Chrome 0.5 beta
Pros
WOT for Chrome works just as WOT for Firefox and IE does. Millions of users in the community rate the reputation of sites, so you can avoid clicking on iffy links.
Cons
Google Chrome extension site is in beta, so it is not stable yet. Don't give up!
Summary
WOT for Chrome works, just make sure you are using the correct version of Chrome (4.0.249.30). If you are not sure, wait a while for the stable version to be released.
