The spare, even austere, Web Shortcuts app is a lesson in function over form. The free utility lets you place up to six customized shortcuts to oft-used Web sites on your BlackBerry's Home Screen. The bottom line is, it works, and its faster than launching your browser first and clicking a bookmark second.

While there's support for attaching personalized icons, you'll have to already know the procedure. Regardless, trappings aren't what this app is about, and we agree. If you'd rather press a Home Screen shortcut to kick-start a favorite Web page than mess with browsers and bookmarks, this app is a great addition to your BlackBerry.

Clicking the 'Download Now' button takes you to the publisher's Web site, where you may download the application over the air.

Popular web shortcut utility for BlackBerry. Usage: download the following applications to your BlackBerry, you'll need at least the shortcutHub and one shortcut application. Launch the shortcutHub to configure your shortcuts, enter the web address including http:// If using custom icons be sure to only use .png files of around 32 by 32 pixels, if the application seems to be taking forver to download an image you've probably made a typo.
