CNET Editors' review
This weather application claims to provide the current temperature for a given location in the United States, but its results left us cold.
WeatherGopher finds its home in the system tray and has a tabbed interface for configuring the location by postal ZIP code, customizing the color display, and specifying the Web site from which it will pull the temperature. (The U.S. National Weather Service and Weather.com are among your four options.) The temperature is displayed in the system tray and is refreshed every 15 minutes. Double-clicking the icon will take you directly to the site and its more detailed listings.
However, when we compared the displayed temperature in the system tray to the forecast site, we found a discrepancy in the measurements. In further testing, we had to rely on visiting the site; the tray icon was merely the WeatherGopher symbol with a rollover message indicating a server problem. Users looking for a reliable weather utility for U.S. temperatures will be disappointed in this freeware.

Version: WeatherGopher 0.75.2
Pros
Used to love it. NO MORE!
Cons
I used to love it but for the past 2 weeks or longer it justs show:wind:error when mouse over the icon in the task bar. I have not been able to find anyone to contact about it so I am using something different that works. Would be great IF IT WORKED!

"Great little thing!"
Version: WeatherGopher 0.75.2
Pros
Simple; shows local temp in system tray. My weather station was 2 miles down the street from me! Can't get more reliable temp than that. I recommend the Yahoo report site; you'll see what i mean.
Cons
Microsoft didn't think of this basic, logical thing?! No surprise there.

"No ads! Clean interface. Uses about 5 megs of memmory."
Version: WeatherGopher 0.75.2
Pros
No ads! Clean interface.
Cons
The only addition that would be nice to have is dangerous weather alerts such as tornadoes. The bug with zip codes starting with zeroes has been fixed. Check the forums for problems weathergopher.com/support/

"sucks! trust me! download weatherbug instead!"
Version: WeatherGopher 0.75.2
Pros
NOTHING
Cons
IT SUCKS! WHEN YOU CLICK IT, IT TAKES YOU ON THE NET TO WEATHER.COM TO CHECK THE WEATHER. THE TEMPURATURE IN YOUR TASKBAR CAN ONLY BE WHITE OR BLACK. WEATHERBUG, ON THE OTHER HAND, YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY COLOR AT ALL TO PUT IN YOUR TASKBAR, YOU CAN REVIEW FORECASTS ON THE ACTUAL PROGRAM, YOU CAN CHECK SEVERE WEATHER, FORECAST MAPS, RADAR MAPS, ON SO MUCH MORE. DOWNLOAD THE FREE WEATHERBUG. TRUST ME! IT ONLY TAKES UP LIKE 5 MB.

"Seemingly good program and functional, but it didn't recognize my zip code"
Version: WeatherGopher 0.75.2
Pros
Wonderful in downloading weather
Fully functional
Cons
Didn't recognize my zip code, which in my mind, doesn't give me a fully accurate forecast. I had a near by zip code.

"NOT a real alternative to weatherbug at all...."
Version: WeatherGopher 0.75.2
Pros
the description is accurate- seemed to work okay for me. however in no way is weather from 50-60 miles away an acceptable "alternative" to weatherbug.
Cons
um, sorry, but after running weatherbug for a few days I decided to download this "alternative' since it doesn't have ads like weatherbug. well, I live near hte PA-MD border- and weathergopher gave me weather from LANCASTER, PA- 45 minutes away- umm- that's not really helpful (especially since Lancaster is to the east and our weather comes from the west)- I found a weatherbug station about a mile from my house at the local high school. I can live with the ads on weatherbug (there are no pop ups, just ads inside the main screen) to get weather in my neighborhood instead of an hour away.
I guess if weather 50-60 miles away is an "alternative", then yeah, this fits. for me- I uninstalled after seeing that.
I will say that the basic description is accurate- it's basically a widget with some extra features, but useless to me since it gets weather that is nowhere near me.
Maybe if you live in a big city this is okay- for anyone in the burbs or farther out, however, it doesn't seem as useful.

"Nice little piece of software for free!"
Version: WeatherGopher 0.75.2
Pros
Unlike WeatherBug, this program doesn't bombard you with flashing advertisements that give you a headache. Small and simple. Very appealing.
Cons
Nothing much to complain about. Maybe just that the temp could be a darker bigger font... otherwise it's a decent freeware program. I love it.

Cons

"Fantastic, Clean, Program!"
Version: WeatherGopher 0.75.2
Pros
This software is light - takes up almost no windows resources in the background. It's clean - contains no spy- or ad- ware!
It's a very small download, and installs extremely easy. Does a simple job, and nothing more, which is a good thing. Highly recommend.
Cons
My only compliants would have to be that I wish you could specify some minor things like font types and colors other then black or white, but this is just a minor thing.
