Publisher's description of VividKeyLogger

From Vivid Designs:

VividKeyLogger is an application that will log key presses in secret. If you are unsure have safe your kids are being you can run this on the computer and monitor what they are saying to people (via MSN, IRC), what Web site they visit and basically any text they type on the keyboard. All daily keyed text is kept in log files which you can view with the handy viewer and see exactly what has been typed and what sites have been visted day by day. A handle tool allows you to add Check Words that will then automatically be highlighted within the log viewer, allowing you to easily check for certain words. Running in the background a password (set on first run of the application) is needed to stop or configure the application and even to view logs.

This small, simple freeware monitors and logs keystrokes, though it loses some major points in terms of usability and security. Configuring VividKeyLoggers scarce, password-protected interface takes very little effort, seeing as that there aren't many features. You can set recording intervals, add keywords to highlight in the log viewer, and select a directory to save log files. The program was able to record some keystrokes, but unfortunately, they were difficult to read and our keywords weren't highlighted as expected. Logs were mixed up and there aren't any filtering options to make things easier. VividKeyLogger saved logs in its programs folder, and we weren't able to choose another directory since the browse button was kaput. Although this application is protected with a password, its security is easily overthrown with a visit to the Task Manager or Add/Remove list. While it claims to stealthily record keystrokes, that wasn't the case since it doesn't hide the system tray icon. Faulty and defenseless, we can't recommend VividKeyLogger.
